They're basically a shank. They won't cut anything you can't tear with your hands anyway. After one use they're usually toast. No edge retention at all. Stick 'em in and break 'em off. That's the extent of their usefulness.

I have the Cold Steel Karambit one... it's nice. I plan on dulling it down and making it a trainer.

A lot of people say the nice thing about these is they are impervious to the elements so you can hide them anywhere you think you might need them (in a bush in front o your house, in your shower, etc). I've never been that paranoid that I thought I needed something while I am in the shower.

I think they are useless as a conventional knife, but as a one or two time self defense knife i can see a few uses for them. why do you ask?

Curious if they actually are useful at all or just novelty junk.

They're pointy that counts for something right?

They are quite useful for defeating metal detectors and passing armed into areas one is not supposed to be armed in.

Up to the point of strip search or one of those newer type x-ray machines in use in England and other European countries, which if I understand the workings of them correctly will clearly show that your carrying one of them.

All these such items made by Cold Steel are very tough and while not designed for cutting and slashing are quite adept at thrusting and stabbing.
