[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Now that the M82A1 has been adopted as the M107.....

Can it be said that it's barrel is mil-spec? I ask this because in another thread it was stated that the only mil-spec .50 barrel was that of the M2 (since up until the M107 was adopted it was the only .50 in our inventory) but now the M107 (M82A1) joins it in it's military adoption.

Why are you so hung up on the word "mil spec?" The barrets have been in use by the US Mil for longer than I have been in (over 5 years). I highly doubt they make a civi barrel and a mil barrel because its not cost effective.

I'm not, I was just curious if a weapons adoption by a military was necessary for it to have mil spec parts or if like say a bolt-action .50 like the ones the US Navy uses (McMillan Tac .50) but haven't adopted (i.e. given a weapon ID number) is also considered mil spec.

In that case I would say it can be perceived as Mil Spec.

When the system is adopted, everything about it is considered mil-spec. The company furnishes the data about the rifle, the .gov accepts it as spec.
