I'm planning on cutting my SCAR 16 barrel to 12" then pin and welding on a ACC M.I.T.E.R flash hider to bring it to 16".  Will I need to open up the gas port at all?  I don't plan on running this with a can for awhile.

The gas port is a replaceable screw that comes in 0.05mm increments: http://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/scar-parts/F141250020

Measure what you have now and I'd start with the next 0.1mm up. You can do the short stroke test with 1 round in the mag to see how big the port needs to be.

Unlike an AR, you can go smaller...

This is what I was looking for.  Thanks!

Follow up question.  Do I have to buy different size screws or is there one size and you screw it in more to adjust the flow?

The screws have a hollow shaft and aren't ajustable. In use, they are retained by the gas regulator so they can't unscrew. They also like to seize up.

Soak it in a good penetrating oil and use a screwdriver that fits the slot exactly, or you'll strip it. When you install the new one use a good anti-seize.

Ok, I'm learning a lot here, thank you.  Do you think I will have to open up with a 12" barrel.  I'm kind of thinking I might.

Depends on ammo and what the pressure is at the gas port.

You can use the gas regulator too to change how fast the pressure vents.

You do know the Miter mount covers up 2 1/2" of barrel and only adds 1 3/4" to the length?  Just checking.

On the other hand, you could cut and thread at 14 1/2, have a Miter pinned on and end up at 16 1/4".

The other problem is, unless you have one already, the Miter only works with the SPR/M4 and SCAR-H SD, neither of which seem to be offered on the AAC website.  You may find one on the shelf somewhere.

I actually didn't.  I think I may take your advice and cut it to 14.5

Is this not the correct M.I.T.E.R mount?  I'm pretty positive that this will work, but I'm out of my element now that I've left the AR world

Yes, in 5.56.  Just remember, if your goal is to one day use this as a suppressor mount, the Miter won't work with just any 51 tooth suppressor.
