I am taking the SBR plunge with my Scar 16. I sent the Form 1 off to the ATF on 7/13. If all goes well, fingers crossed, I will have my stamp by Halloween. Then, I'll send my barrel to Marvin for the chop. I will send periodic updates on my progress.

UPDATE: ATF Cashed my $200 check on 7/25
UPDATE: Hit the 93 day mark. No Form 1 approval. Yet...

What are you chopping it to?

Are you ordering a new gas control screw, or reaming out the one you have?

I am chopping it to 10". Marvin said I can just remove the gas control screw and I would be fine. Or, he can ream it to factory specs for a 10" barrel.
What is everyone else doing?

If you just remove the gas screw, the gun will be WAY overgassed (though it'll probably work).

I bought a set of gas control screws from FNH USA/Browning and tuned the gas port myself to get operating at a similar cyclic rate to the unaltered rifle.

Strongbow,

How much did the gas control screws cost you?

Congrats on your SBR journey...I hope it's a short one.

Cheers

They cost $5 each, plus shipping.

For an investment of $25 or so, you can get a good selection for your barrel length and tune it exactly like you want it.

I know.  My wife tells me that I should take it on the road; although, she probably just means for me to leave.

Cheers

My last SBR journey took 120 days back in 2010. I am hoping for the same timeframe. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for reminding me.  I sent mine in and it was pending on 6/23.  I finally forgot about it....until now.

Are you reaming the port or buying a new screw?  Who's doing the work?

I sent it to Marvin a few weeks ago, not a clue if hes gonna ream it or not.

What length?

If ya need or want help tuning it when you get it back, chime in.  I had mine cut to 10.5" and used gas control screws from FNH/Browning to tune it perfectly.  I'm very pleased with my SCAR SBR.

10", CQB length.  Was gonna throw my 3t brake on there and try it out with the NT4, but I already got a brakeout so now Im waiting on a AAC Mini4.

Rgr that.  You probably need the size 190, 200, or 210 gas control screw.

Do you have a link to the part numbers or should I call and ask them for the part in those sizes?

See the link below.  You want to use the BRNG No. when ordering (that's the Browning number... you actually get the parts from Browning). The numbers I gave are the last 3 digits of that number.

They cost $5 each plus shipping.

Hey Strongbow,
Thanks for the info on screw sizes. I will order those this week. Can you try reposting the link? it didn't come through.

Update: Form 1 has been with the ATF for 70 days.
Gas screws from FN have arrived.

I am going to send the receiver to Ident for engraving on the first of the month.

My last Form 1 took 100 days. The wait is killing me.

I just got off the phome with the ATF. My Scar 16 SBR went pending as of 6/23 and was told 5 months which puts me at the end of November.

Double damn!

My SCAR also went pending on 6/23 and I got it back from Shipman on 8/29.  Although my can went pending 7/11 and they told me 5 months for that.
