I’ve used Historic Firearms for the past 6 years.  It’s through Eastern Insurance.  Historicfirearms.com or 800-545-9326.

For anyone who has used both USAA VPP riders and Eastern/Historic: how do the rates/deductibles compare? Exclusions?

I'm about ready to entirely ditch USAA.

Sounds like I'll be going that route then. Unless there are some exclusions or "gotchas"?

I have current VPP policies with both Eastern/Historic as well as USAA.

The USAA policy covers $150K of jewelry/watches/art  for ~$1,100 per year. That works out to be ~$7.5 per thousand dollars of coverage.

Eastern/Historic covers $500K worth of firearms for $1,500 per year or $3 per thousand dollars of coverage.

Granted these are a bit apples to oranges in terms of the items with different risk profiles (jewelry and art vs. gun) but when I called USAA about firearm coverage they initially told me they couldn't do it in the amount I needed/wanted and when pushed came back with some ludicrous policy premium amount like $5,000+ per year.

We have all of our insurance through USAA (home, auto, umbrella) but if you want to insure guns Historic/Eastern is the way to go vs. USAA in my experience.

Hope this helps.

"Ludicrous policy premium" perfectly describes my situation with USAA.

The policy I hold is now north of $10 per thousand in coverage. I wish I were kidding. It's kept creeping up year by year with more outrageous requirements - regular appraisals and storage requirements - as time has gone by.

Looks like Eastern is good to go and I'll be doing that ASAP.

Another vote for Eastern. Laura is great. Jack (may he Rest In Peace) was amaxing. I always enjoyed speaking with him.

I think I used to pay like $250 per $50k coverage with "1 item over 20k" (not sure if that matters to the price) with Eastern

The nice thing about Eastern is that they can combine other certain collections to get a cheaper rate per 1000.
Also at 500K one doesnt have to itemize each item below 50K. A huge time saver.
