I wouldn't think of investing any money into guns right now. Just think, if Obama and company want to pass a law that mirrors Commiefornia's law, your 6933 will be worth nothing as it cannot be tranfered to anyone. Then again, looking at the market, I would almost say that it is a good investment as you will always have something tangible and an AR15 cannot go bankrupt leaving you with nothing.
The AW ban renewal that sat (unacted-upon) in Congress during the 2007 session had a little-noticed clause that, along with so-called assault firearms, would also have banned all new short-barrelled rifles and shotguns (exactly like the MG ban did in FOPA '86).
We have no idea what the structure of another ban would be. If it took the form of the 2007 legislation, registered SBRs would become like MGs: A supply that is limited for all time, effective the date of the law. I would then expect SBRs to start rising in value, like MGs ... and I would think that the most valuable over time would be factory SBRs, including factory Colts.
Way back when (1994), I paid $2k for my Colt factory M16A1. This year, I paid $1.5k for my Colt 6933.
What will each be worth ten years from now? Who knows. It all depends on those fools in power in D.C. come January.
