I have been looking at the Harvester, but I am open to any suggestions. I will be using 175 grain SMK ammo

Harvester would be a great choice for bench shooting or hunting.

The more I read about the Harvester the more I find out that it is for very low volume amount of shooting. It has great noise reduction though. It will be on a Rem bolt action and I don't see myself shooting more than 40 rounds in a sitting though

Correct,it's not a can that will handle a lot of abuse, but performs well for its intended purpose.

Are you opposed to reflex cans or profiling the barrel? I'm partial to the Allen Engineering cans like the AE30

I prefer the Thunder Beast but the Harvester does a fine job. The Dead Air Ti is also a contender if your rifle is threaded 5/8x24. What threads to you have on your barrel?

5/8 24. I prefer to have something that is a ratchet/qd as opposed to just threading it onto the barrel itself. I have a three other cans now all in different calibers. I want this one to have good noise reductions and be durable. I will be doing 500 yard plus shooting.

I have the M4-2000 on my SBR AR. I was thinking about doing an AAC as well, but the SDN doesn't have that great of noise reduction

Definitely check out the Thunder Beast Ultra and Dead Air Sandman-S or L. Other contenders are the SilencerCo Omega and Rugged Surge. Basically it's going to come down to which mounting system you prefer.

I have a Harvester and two Thunderbeast Ultra 9 CBs. The Harvester is a great can, I've praised it in other threads as it is the can I always have in the field when hunting. It is very underrated and fills its intended role perfectly. The slim profile also is aesthetically pleasing when mounted to bolt guns. The Ultra series is what I would pick for long range precision shooting, light and very repeatable. I also have two Omegas I'm waiting on as I view them as a great balance between light weight and durability. The Omega has the added benefit of being configurable (mounts and end caps) as well as semi-repairable at home if you get an end cap strike. The running theme here is light weight is a priority over durability for non-high rate of fire applications. My heavy Sakers and SDN-6 have the mag dump hosts covered.

Buy a lightweight can for your bolt gun: Harvester, Ultra, or Omega.

Why? You're missing out on a lot. Unless you're looking for something to swap between a lot of hosts.

I personally would direct thread if over 500 yard type stuff. One of my harvestors on a 300 win mag i have gotten 2" groups at 855 yards.

I am going to put Sandman-L on my Rem 700 when it gets out of jail. Using QD mount though, so I can run my Saker or Sandman, depending what day it is

Op, sounds like youre on the fence with two different classes of cans. You made it seem as though the low volume shooting the harvester wad designed around is a bad thing yet you're going to be putting it on a bolt gun. Also, I'm not sure what you're intended purpose is for your 700 but I got a harvester and specifically wanted direct thread because it's going on a bolt gun, a hunting rifle, that I want to keep the weight down as much as possible. You should decide what class can you want then compare what each manufacturer offers in that class.

For price, weight, sound and OAL length on a 308 bolt gun I do not think you can beat an Omega with a direct thread mount and flat end cap

Have to agree about the flat cap direct thread Omega; I've shot that configuration side by side against an Ultra 9, and was amazed how well the Omega compared to the 50% longer Ultra.
To be sure, the Ultra 9 is lighter, and was the quietest, but it seemed more due to a tonal difference than anything I could call serious noise level difference.
Several shooters standing 10-15 feet behind, could not always tell which was which. This was firing identical 16" .308 bolt guns with the same ammo.
I really like the Ultra, but would not hesitate to use the Omega for any similar purpose.
