I do this exact thing with my Bowers CAC .45 suppressor, and Masterpiece Arms 9mm MAC clone.

Yep - I also have a CAC-45. I don't even have a .45 to put it on any more. But I've used it on:
.22LR 9mm .300 Whisper .44 Mag / Spl .45 ACP. |

If you're talking strictly handguns, this can be done easily by a simple piston swap in either the AAC TiRant or SilencerCo Osprey.

Hmmm.... how difficult and safe (for thecan) is it to take (1) a 45 Osprey and (2) a 45 Tirant and shoot 22lr, 300 Whisper, and standard 44 magnum?
I know the Tirant breaks down (hence my interest in 22lr), but have never heard of anyone using a 45 can for so many sub calibers (beyond 9&40). Anyone have more information on Tirant adapters or know machinists doing this work? |

The TiRant does NOT disassemble for cleaning, and neither does the Osprey (although SilencerCo seems to be willing to remove / replace baffle stacks at the factory). |

I'd go with the Osprey but thats just me as I dont feel comfortable with AAC, but they make a good product too.

Silencerco will make any type piston you want. I ordered a special one for my 44 levergun that needed to be .400" longer than standard and they charged the same as the stock pistons cost.

I have a Tirant on hold and I definitely was able to open by unscrewing....dealer insisted I open it and check it out.

you can shoot sub calibers through the ti-rant and it can be taken down and cleaned now. pretty cool stuff.

Kind of ironic that you can get both for the same price now.... either way, i'm a proud osprey owner ha only real big difference between the two now is that the ti-rant is capable of take down, but IMO, only really majorly important if you plan on shooting rimfire through it.... |

carter, good point. I see no use for taking apart a clean shooting centerfire can
 I wonder if the new takedown Tirant will be a DB or 2 louder? generally the specs are loosened up to take them apart and that affects performance. Gemtechs new Alpine .22 takedown is -38db and 1/2" longer than the sealed Outback, yet the shorter Outback is listed at -39db and equal, if not quieter. Of course I'd rather have the take down .22 rimfire that wasnt as quiet, but I wouldnt sacrifice performance on a 45 can to be able to take it apart. I think AAC is grasping at straws and trying to offer something that the Osprey doesnt.

Too true. You really only need to disassemble a centerfire pistol silencer if you are shooting .22lr through it or if you have shot thousands upon thousands of rounds of dirty ammo (or cast lead). Even then you only need to clean the blast baffle. The extra internal volume of the Osprey makes this even more of a non-issue. |

A little trick I discovered at the hardware store is to buy a rubber grommet that fits the large .50 cal aperture of the 45 can's exit and snap it in. Make sure its centered, fits snug and has enough clearance as theres several different sized grommets. The one I use closes down the hole to .40, which is minimum for a .355 bullet / 9mm clearance. By using the rubber removable grommet you quiet down your 9mm when shooting it through a 45 can

how well does a .22lr sound through a .45 can? i've shot 9mm through my TiRant 45, and .22lr through my Evo9, but never considered shooting .22lr through my TiRant45. i thought i would if i had a TiRant 9. maybe i should try this one day. but i want to be able to have my TiRant jailbroken by AAC first.

I shot a few 22 rounds through my 45 Osprey with 1/2-28 piston and its near as quiet as my Sparrow given the huge volume. I wouldnt make a habit out of it, but ok for emergency.
