The SCAR-SD was designed by Advanced Armament for the FN SCAR-L rifle. We have also had interest from other military groups who use the H&K 416.
The SCAR-SD is a light weight, fast attach silencer for 5.56 x 45mm rifles. This designed was initially created for the precision variant of FN's SCAR-L, it is well suited for use on any rifle where weight, and size are a significant consideration. This design provides enough sound reduction to render it hearing safe and only adds 3.5" to the overall length of the rifle. Weight: 16oz 27dB of sound reduction 1.5" diameter x 5.9" OAL Lifetime warranty.   I would like to mention that this item is in stock. |

The SCAR-SD is hearing safe? Robert Silvers has said the SCAR-SD is louder than the M4-2K which is not hearing safe.

I not sure what you are talking about. The M4-2000 is way below hearing safe. The SCAR-SD is not as quiet, but is still hearing safe. It has never tested otherwise. I guess that you are wrong, but I am still not certain as to what you are confused about. I think that you may be confusing us with someone else. |

Here is a closer picture of the Omni. The Omni was designed to interface with the common A2 birdcage flash hider. When mounted the Omni adds only 4.9" to the overall length of the weapon. The mount is a single piece design that indexes on the wrench flats of the A2 birdcage. Our mounting method eliminates the possibility of loosing parts and allows for repeatable positioning of the silencer. Specs: 32dBs of sound reduction (14.5" barrel & M193) 1.5OD x 6.9 OAL. I'd say the longer barrels, like the Mk16's 18" and the Mk17's 16" and 20" could probably benefit from a heavier, stiffer barrel, given their role. I actuallly figured every version would have an HB, considering the heavy profile of the M4A1 barrel.

I ran the SCAR-SD in a carbine class recently and it performed very well. I was using a 14.5" M4 barrel and a Phantom flash suppressor mount. The carbine handled very nicely.

What were the numbers at the various temps, what were the velocities of each shot and the respective dB numbers and what barrel length was used for each shot? I should have been clearer in my post. Sorry for that. I am looking for information like this: Unsupressed shot from 9" barrel: 169.4 dB Velocity 2674 Suppressed shot from 9" barrel: 139.7 dB Velocity 2689 Temp/Humidity for each string. I assume that you do 10 shot or 20 shot tests and average them out. I don't think 27dB of reduction is accurate for every single shot, all times of the year, from all barrel lenghts in all atmospheres. 27 could be borderline hearing safe, to not hearing safe depending on the variables. |

That has been my point for several years, but nobody wants to put in the time/effort to do comprehensive testing in a variety of conditions, on a variety of platforms. So we are still stuck with the single number metric. |

I heard the the AAC S2R suppressor was delayed because of baffle chages resulting from lessons learned during the SCAR-SD suppressor design. How well do these bafles work in the S2R? I heard you just completed testing of the new baffles in the S2R. Any idea on when the S2R will be released or suppression figures?

The baffles have evolved from the original S2R prototype. The baffles are extremely effient. The biggest changes have involved improving the adjustable zero M.I.T.E.R. System, and decreasing the weight and back pressure. We have been working on perfecting the mounting system before production. Many of these improvements originate with the end user, so it takes time to receive the feedback. |

OK one final question, sorry for asking so many, and thank you for answering all my questions. Do you know the amount of barrel that is covered from the shoulder of the barrel where the threads start (where the mount juts up against the barrel) to the point where the back of the suppresor rests? To ask it another way, how much length of the unthreaded portion of the barrel is covered by the suppressor? I have a very limited amount of space for this suppressor to fit and want to know if I can use it for my application or if it is too long.

I believe Kevin meant the SOPMOD flash suppressors. Kevin, is that correct?
The SCAR-SD currently comes with the Phantom FS. Not sure if that will change in the future. The SOPMODs add less overall length to the rifle barrel by nearly 3/4". The FS will also work with the Gemtech HALO and KAC cans. They are nice flash suppressors. Most went to the military. Very few are currently in civilian hands. Mark |

Is the 3/4" length reduction also to the suppressor?
According to the AAC website the S2R is supposed to add 4.1" and the M4-2000 adds 5.0" and the SCAR SD adds 3.5" Does that mean with the other flash hider the M4-2000 only adds 4.25" and the SCAR SD only 2.75" or are those figures above already with the shorter flash hider? Is the shorter KAC compatible flash hider a Phantom style or A2 style? |

Here is a pisture of the SOPMOD (on the left) and the Phantom. The SOPMOD is longer overall, but...
 The SOPMOD mounts further down on the barrel than the Phantom.  I can take some measurements for you tonight if you'd like of the SCAR-SD and the M4-2000 on the two different mounts. |

They recommend use of the provided Rockset. There are no crush or peel washers used with these mounts. Even with Rockset applied you will be able to get he mount off if you need to do so. I mount mine very tight though and usually need to heat up the FS with a torch before removing it. Mark |

Okay, these are rough measurements. I used a cleaning rod and marked it with a marker, so I might be a little off here and there.
 Measured down bore with bolt closed.Rifle had a 14.5" barrel with SOPMOD: With M4-2000 total length = 21.5" With M4-2000 added ~4 5/8" With SCAR-SD total length = 19 3/16" With SCAR-SD added ~3 5/16" ----------------------------------- 16" rifle barrel with Phantom: With M4-2000 added ~4 7/8" With SCAR-SD added ~3 1/2" This help? I can do a better job later if need be. Flash wise I've not yet shot them at night together. Flash on teh SOPMOD didn't seem bad at all though. Maybe this weekend.  |

You said you mount yours very tight, Are there any ill affects than can happen from mounting it tighter than the AAC recomanded 20 to 30lb. I do not have torque wrench so i just put it on and sniged it up real good but dont know how much that is. |

Just get it hand-tight and then snug it with the wrench. If you degreased the threads and applied the Rockset you’ll be good to go. This is how I do it. I stick the upper in an upper block and stick the block in a vice. I degrease the threads inside the flash suppressor and on the barrel. Something like Grease Lightning has worked great for this. After drying off everything, a bead of the provided Rockset is applied to the thread on the barrel. I make sure I get the Rockset run all the way around at least part of the barrel threads. Then I put one small drop of Rockset inside the FS on the threads. Turn the FS to spread out the Rockset. Put the FS on hand tight. Then I use a wrench to tighten the FS. I’ve used torque wrenches enough to kind of have a feel for the 25-30 pound mark. I probably tighten my FSs just a little more than that, and it is probably more than needed. I can still remove the FS later if I want, but I usually need to heat up the FS with a torch. Mark |

So it only removes a quarter inch from the length with suppressor on for the SOPMOD then? Or are they different lengths of barrel+flash hider when installed that accounts for the other half inch? Thanks for the measurements!

When your dealing with small efficient suppressors your going to get a lot of blow back that will make the rifle dirty. A larger volume can will not experience as much but it is larger and in today's markets is not as acceptable. It basically comes down to, you can't get a every thing for free and with high efficiency small cans you get increased fouling. |
