Quoted: Anyone get a chance to look at the Tavor at the Las Vegas show?

I did- Finally!
27 inches-almost the minimum legal length- a bit hefty at 7.7 lbs, but a truly excellent balance when shouldered. The bolt hold back and release is behind the magwell-and rediculous as it may sound, it's actually very intuitive and easy to use there, considering how far forward your right hand is on the gun.
It doesn't use an ar15 style direct gas action-rather, they use a piston system which I was not permitted to inspect, but I doubt it blows all the carbon and residue over the bolt like the AR15. Fully ambi means what is sounds like-leftys can convert it over to left handed operation, and I don't THINK(not sure) you have to buy extra parts to switch it, as with an AUG. The handguard is removable, so keep an eye peeled for a RAS style forend.
Barrel twist is 1/7-guess I'll just have to learn to like it. the flip down sights are nearly useless at about 8 inches apart, but it does have a weaver rail, that really should have extended back another 4 inches-can't get a proper cheek weld on a ACOG, but an OKO red dot sight on a 1/4 weaver rail riser would be about perfect.
SinistralRifleman with said Tavor-
Estimated Dealer price- a whopping $1500+/-!(SinistralRifleman not included)
OW!
Yeah, I know-and MSRP will probably be around $2000-Major Ouch!
Still-it accepts ar15 magazines(unlike the Steyr USR), it's compact, should be relible and durable(waiting on tests, this is just speculation that the Isrealis can still design tough weapons), and Castle Arms wants to do a LEGP(Limited Edition Group Purchase) on them for us.
It's still a must have item for me.
