LR 3.5-10x M1 or M3?

it'll go atop my Rem 700 LTR (ive decided on that one) for shots mostly under 500m.

im leaning towards the M1.  but like the idea of the M3...the adjustments are just too large per click i guess.

opinions?

It WILL matter if you need to shoot something at 500+ yards. But a semi auto rifle in my opinion isnt best suited for long range shooting... Very rarely do you see snipers use semi auto (well except the PSG-1 but that is expensive as hell) Its always rem 700 P or PSS (or its equivilent, like the M-24 sniper system.... just a remington 700 BDL with heavy barrel and a different stock)

If you can do the math for Mil-Dots then get the M1.
I use several of each but in the last few years hve noticed a definite tendency to use the plain Mil-Dots.
For once the Military did it right!!

SWAFA has the book and chart to do the math.

I have a M3 on a PSS 308. It has the duplex due to I have a laser range finder. I know it has course adjustments compared to the M1 but there has never been a problem hitting something quick. Besides I do not have to hit something in the eye just between them.

The coarser M3 adjustments have a great advantage when you start having to crank in several turns on a M1 for real long range shooting (1000 yards).  Out to 500 yards the corrections are not so large.  The M1's finer adjustments will give you better accuracy at close range.  I have Mark IV M1s on my long range rifles, but you have to pay close attention that you do not get off a turn at long ranges.  The military had a good idea with the M3, but I'm not sure 500 yards is far enough to make a big issue of it. I have also noted that at the high altitudes we have here in Utah that the standard factory ballistics are way off at long range. With the thin air the trajectory is considerably flatter than book values.  The M3 would not track well here at 1000 yards.  Watch-Six
