Im still a newbie. I have a post ban Colt but want a pre ban.
Found a Olympic Arms Pre-Ban AR-15 .223, Early Model. I'm thinking about buying it but want to know if there is anything different by the term early model and late model.

Here is the ad:
Olympic Arms Pre-Ban AR-15 .223, Early Model, SGW receiver, A-1 Sights, Bayonet Lug, Collapsible Stock, 16" Carbine, 1 30rnd Mag.
For $989.00

Do you guys have any info ?
Is this a good buy ?
Thanks

He replied with this:

Legs,
I just bought one a while ago, almost same as the one you're looking at, for $800.
What he probably means by "early model", is the SGW on the lower. this stood for Schuetzen Gun Works, which was the original name for Olympic. Some rifles, like mine, have both the SGW logo and the Olympic Arms name on them. More recent rifles have the Oly. "lion" trademark instead of SGW.
See the Olympic Arms website, www.olyarms.com, for more info about pre/post ban identification, how to tell a forged from a cast receiver, etc.
Chances are, since the rifle has the SGW logo, it IS
a pre-ban. Mine is, and the model designation on mine is "CAR-AR".
Hope this helps, and check out this pair I ran across recently....

Insert pair of legs here....

I can't show you the nice pair of legs he sent along with the e-mail. But they were real nice.

E-mail him to show you them.
If you like legs you will like these.

I sold an OLY (sgw marked) complete rifle to ALTA a couple of years ago..the rifle was the best dcm gun I ever had. It was an 8.5sum upper with a complete oly lower. It was put together by a very good friend, and could shoot .25 at 100 all day.... I was in the need of money and alta had some.....I would never bad mouth an oly...pat
