colt mag question?

I have a bunch of 20rd colt mags and some marked M16-M16a1 universal ind.,all of the universal mags marked M16 have a CI or UI stamped in the front edge of mag body,as do most of the colt marked mags..they have metal follower's.but I have some colt marked 20rd mags with no CI stamped in the mag body and they have black plastic followers..my questions are,what does the CI mean or stand for and what is the deal with the plastic followers, any info would help thank's fred [email protected]

It isn't really CI and UI it's just UI if you'll look at it the same way each time. Universal Ind. produced the mags for Colt. The Colt mags with the black plastic followers (& no UI marks) were produced after the military switched to 30rd. mags. Colt had a continued run of 20's produced for their commercial sales.

Some of the late production Colt 20's had an internal 5rd. block that were for hunting use, you might want to check the f.plate for a rivet towards the front. (There were also earlier 5rd. limiters that were completely internal and weren't riveted in. If you ever come accross a mag that only loads to 5rds. and has no riveted f.plate it may have one of the early blocks.)
