I'm looking at purchasing a SA revolver.  I have been looking at Ruger & Colt for pricing, but I can't find anything under $500.

A friend of mine suggested Cabela's Millenium Revolver.  Does anyone know if it is any good?

Disclaimer: I don't plan to use +P rounds.

Well, Gun Test magazine gave it a "Buy" rating, based on price, and overall quality. They have a brass frame, but the overall finish is good. For the money they are hard to beat.

Rad2112:

You can’t find a Ruger for less than $500?

Either this is a typo, you’re not looking very hard, or NJ is even more messed up than I thought (no offence).

NIB blued Ruger SA’s go for around $300 to $400 at gunshows here.

I’ve never actually seen the Cabela revolver outside of their catalog.  However, it’s probably made in Italy by the same folks who make the blackpowder replicas.  My experience with those replicas is that many are made of really soft steel.

In the catalog, it appears that the frame is steel and the grip frame is brass.  However, I guess the frame could be blackened brass.

For the price it doesn’t sound like it’s a bad deal.  I’d still much prefer a Ruger.

But, if it’s the best you can do, go for it and get a Ruger later.
