I'd appreciate any advice on the pros/cons of this finish.  Looking to do pistol/rifle/shotgun (but not AR).

It obviously will inhibit corrosion to a large degree, and I personally like the grey color of it.

Ever look at the Les Baer web page? They refinish guns, to what I've heard is a really nice, tough final product.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, the corrosion resistance of parkerizing isn't solely due to the phosphating itself; its main purpose is to enable the metal to retain oil.  If the finish is dry, it won't take much to rust.

Pro's are: it's cheap, common, and provides a nice matte finish.

Con's are: hard to touch up, not as corrosion resistant as film-based coatings, scratches show up more.

So, ken_mays what would you suggest as an alternative to parkerizing?

Also, what about scratch resistance?
