I just got a new Springfield standard M1A with the M14 walnut stock and I'd like to replace the top handguard with a walnut one.   If anybody has any links or numbers of suppliers  I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Jeff

I bought a M1A1 a few months ago and looked into getting the wood handguard.  Springfield has them if you ask.  Also, call up Fred's.  He has had them in the past.  I was advised not to switch.  They put the plastic on for a reason.  Rapid fire will cause heat that could burn the wood.

DuPage Trading has them and they look nice on a display rifle.  Matching the stock may take some stain.

Get an early vented handguard from CMP (they're new old stock) if you shoot a lot just for fun, the barrel cools faster.

If you shoot a lot the holes in the handguard will create a rippling effect in the air and that could interfere with your sighting, that was one of the reasons for switching to a non-vented one.
