Difference between Mossberg 500 & the 500 A???

I can't find an answer to this question:
What (if anything) are the differences between a Mossberg 500 and a model 500 A? What does the "A" stand for? Aluminum? I thought all their 500 series receivers were aluminum? Thanx for the help.

I **think** there was a few internal mods & (I think) they changed the safety just a tad, went from plastic to metal. This is all guesswork from what I was told many many days ago. >gg<

I just bought 2 500 A's ( I need a 12 step program) this weekend. But there's no "500 A" listed in my blue book.

I've had a 5 or so 500s, and 2 500As. The only difference I remember noticing is the shape of the safety selector. My 500As also came with wood furniture that included a longer fore-end that overlapped the receiver when all the way back, but I'm not sure if that was a specific feature.
