I bought a taurus 941 in 22 mag for my wife to use. I like the gun and so does my wife, but I have to admit the trigger is really stiff. I don't have a lot of experience with revolvers, but is there some way to lessen the trigger pull in the double action mode? Or do I need to send/take it to a gun smith?

You can install a 'tune-up' spring kit which will improve things a great deal.  You can get a Wolff or Trapper kit and it'll come with a lighter mainspring & two trigger springs.  The installation really isn't that bad if you understand things and are cautious about dis-assembly.
