this my problem:
I bought a new COLT A3 16" upper assembly.
can't get a zero!    first Troy told me it was a carry handle problem, a guy from AZ  said that maybe i had a m4 frontsight, he said it would have a F on the frontsight, well it does, but after closer look at the upper it also says m4 on the front of the receiver just above the handgaurd. so no where do you think i'm at.  what can i do?  someone help please!

Here's a DPMS sight: www.shooterstore.com/acb/showprod.cfm?&DID=90&User_ID=1514610&st=2411&st2=-278988593&st3=288780890&CATID=494&ObjectGroup_ID=1366
Perhaps it will work for you. You have to be careful w/ aftermarket removable carry handles there is alot of Chinese junk ones out there. I know because I fell for a gun show dealers line and thought I'd save a few bucks and ended up w/ one that was junk, it didn't fit my flat-top.

I do have one of these DPMS sights for my flat top and it works great.

Okay, when you mount your Colt handle and attempt to zero where do you start, at 25 yards, 50 or 100?

2. What and where are the groupings in reference to your aiming point?

3. Are you using a benchrested hold or offhand?

4. What rounds are you using?

Sorry for all the questions, but rifle should be on the paper at 100 yards out of the box and we'll need some info in order to diagnose your problems. ("we" is refering to all others reading, alot of who know a hell of alot more than I)

it will only hit the top of the paper,  and have no more adustment on the front or the rear sight  even at 25yrds! shoot real high!

Are we correct in assuming that 1) you have no more downward travel of the rear sight housing? and 2) you cannot raise the front sight post any higher without it comming out of the sight housing?

Is there any "light" showing through between the bottom of the rear sight and the receiver?  In other words, is the bottom of the rear sight assembly touching anything when it is all the way down?  If there is some space, you can remove the teeny, tiny allen screw from one of the holes on the distance wheel (you might need a flashlight to see it) and find a new hole so that you will have a little more downward travel.  It's possible that your sight assembly wasn't properly "assembled" at the factory.  A proper assembly should have either two or three clicks (down) remaining when it is in the 8/3 lowest position.  If you have four, five or six etc......well.....there's your trouble.

IMHO- as I have seen this before-your problem is caused by having a regular iron sight front sight post in a detatchable handle receiver gun. Easy fix- call Colt, tell them the problem and have them send you the proper front sight post.

Get a taller front sight post.

Get a Trijicon front sight post, problem solved and you get low light fighting capability.
