A guy at the shop said that the ARMY is buying all of the current production.  Is this true????  I want my Bushy lower!

That's news to me.  Plenty of stores that advertise on-line have lots of stock, and if your store is willing to do a transfer (should be no more than $20-$35), you can order one and show him that he is wrong.

Ocassionally, some manufacturers get back up - I KNOW this happened to Eagle Arms/Armalite before Y2K, and after 9-11 some manufacturers may have had trouble keeping up with demand.

I could be wrong, but I've never heard of the US military buying civilian manufactured stock.

Why, Yes there is a waiting list.  Give me $500 and I'll gladly give up my highly desired, collectable, pre-ban, rare position on the list!!

Last I heard only ArmaLite was short due to supplying the military - that was probably six weeks ago.

Bushmaster was never a standard contractor for the US military.

The Armalite story was a fabrication made up by dealers. This is discussed in the AR10 forum and verified by Armalite. The military has a few AR10's for testing.

Would there be a waiting list for barrels and lower parts kits because of the military?

If so could that contribute to the wait from Bushmaster?

drfcolt,
my reference to ArmaLite was with regard to .223.
Is that also a fabrication ??

Armalite (like Bushmaster) does not have a current contract with the US military. Bushmaster did have a contract for about 500 M4's that Colt couldn't come up with during Desert Storm, but that was it.

Only current ones for M16's are FN (A2) and Colt (M4).

Blaming government needs on not being able to get a militray type weapon is the standard excuse of gun dealers, in my experience.

My dealer has several sources and can usually get me what. Of couse he's been in the business for about 35-40 years and has built up quite a few contacts.

OK, I'm going back to my original statement.  Armalite, about six weeks ago was short .223's due to military deliveries.
I have no idea about today nor do I know if these guns were part of a contract or just one time buys.

I was ordering some parts from Bushmaster the other day, and they said they had lowers in stock and ready to ship.

The only time I know of a Bushmaster lower shortage was in 1999 when Y2k hysteria took hold. I don't believe Bushmaster has any military contracts, but they do have a lot of LEO (including federal) contracts. Just call their sales line. They will give you the straight skinny on availability. HTH.
