Called them up and asked who made the lower receiver they were advertising in their latest catalog.  Guy said DPMS makes it.  Any comments or problems with this receiver?  Thanks for any help.

DPMS makes a good rifle but I doubt its a first line run maybe a factory third, like Chuck said stay away.

My friend and I each ordered one.  His came with a Century machined lower.  I think Oly arms made it.  My lower was a cast DPMS unit.  Both uppers are Colt A2, with a heavy barrel on it.  So far they both look and function good.  I couldn't beat the price.

Ooops, I wasn't very clear what I wanted answered.  Am just curious about the lower receiver.

Century is selling a lower receiver for 89 bucks.  I called them and asked the rep who made it.  Rep said it was made by DPMS.  Went to my latest Shotgun News and it has this description about the receiver:

Standard forged, 7075-T6 Aircract Aluminum alloy tempered to T6 condition, hardcoat anodized per Mil-A-8625, forged lower receiver. Their retail price for the lower receiver is 179.95

I need to call DPMS and ask them about the receivers that Century is selling, see if they are seconds, etc.

Anybody have a DPMS lower that they built up into a rifle?  Thanks again.

Anyway,

dpms has a table at a show i was at and if i remember right the lowers were $125 stripped, i believe they were forged as they looked nice..but i didn't pay too much attention so i could be wrong.

I ordered one of the Century AR15 lowers about 2 weeks ago.I have since installed it on a new Bushmaster upper.I'm very impressed with the lower. It is forged and no burrs whatsoever.Very clean and nice finish. All DPMS lower parts from Brownells kit fit in perfect and I can't find any flaw with it.Overall I found it a good deal for $90.

"Avoid this rifle. And the Century M1 too."

I bought one of the Century M1's in 1999.  While the stock doesn't look the best, the bore was good, and the rifle shoots fine.  Have you read / heard bad things about the Century M1's??

i heard somone call their m1's 'shoulder fired pipe bombs'...i believe Fulton Armory has some info on why not to buy a century garand.

Well, if it's a DPMS lower that Century is advertising, it is cast.  My Century AR came with a DPMS cast lower.

All the ones I have seen are cast also.

thats funny, olympic's website says they make them...and i didnt think DPMS used cast receivers anymore, but Olympic does on their "plinker" model...

Walt Kulek sent a Century M1 Garand to Fulton Armory for a technical inspection.  It's there to read if you want to, but in short he said the receiver is a POS and it would be dangerous to fire it.  DPMS' old lowers are cast, new ones are forged, if I remember correctly.

how could it be dangerous to fire it?  as long as the internals are mil spec i'd think it would be okay.  i wouldn't think a lower would have that much overall significance..unless it's all cracked or the holes are in the wrong places.

Here's the Fulton Armory tech inspection of the POS CAI M1 Garand. Caveat Emptor.

www.fulton-armory.com/CAI-TI.htm

If Oly or DPMS makes CAI AR15 receivers they're probably okay.

Olympic arms makes the Century receiver, DPMS dosen't actually MAKE anything. Thats where the Defense Procurement comes from in DPMS.
