I would never own a cast receiver. Forged receivers are just not that expensive. A forged receiver is stronger.

Either is ok with me as long as both were cast/forged correctly. I have a cast EA converted by Bushmaster to M16 and a factory Colt M16. Both have fired 10's of thousands of rounds. Can't tell any wear difference between them. The lower receivers are not a stress part. I have seen both poor qualiy cast and forged so why would one care ?

The AR was designed to use a forged receiver. There's nothing wrong with cast when designed correctly - look at the cast Mini-14 as an example.

Considering that when I bought my Oly lower, Oly wanted almost twice as much for a forged, I'd say buy a cast. Which would you rather have for the same money, one forged lower or two cast? I spent the extra money on 500 rounds of ammo.z

Its milled from a cast ingot, CIA arms garands have a true cast receiver. GG |

I've got a couple of forged lowers and a cast one. As long as the casting is a good quality, I don't see a problem. |

Once the rifle is assembled, you'll never know the difference. They both shoot the same. The cast may wear out sooner, say in 1/2 bazillion rounds vs. 3/4 bazillion. I have one of each & I assure you, the cast receiver is not brittle.

Reason I was asking is my lower is a DPMS cast lower. I had the option to pick a new Century (I think Olympic made it for them) forged lower, and decided to go with DPMS. Did I make a good decision, or should I have gone with the Century/Oly lower?

Don't worry about it. Put your rifle together & go shoot it. DPMS make fine stuff.

I have a Colt (forged), DPMS (cast) and a Oly (cast). The DPMS is indistinguishable from the Colt and has worked quite nicely. The Oly was my first and it works OK except that it won't accept Thermold mags and the finish seems to have worn off too quickly.
