If you could only have a small collection of 10 pistols for the rest of your life, what would they be, and why? Just going through ideas on what to add to the collection.
Sorry, I need to disqualifly myself from this. I'm over the bag limit. I got 14.
I am going to extend it to include Revolvers:
(1.) Les Baer 1911 in 45 Super (can also fire 45 ACP by changing the recoil spring). (2.) Browning Hi Power MkIII in 40 S&W (3.) Keltec P32 (4.) Colt 380 (5.) Ruger Vacquero in 45 Colt. (6.) Colt Python (8 inch barrel, Blued) (7.) Ruger SP101 (2 1/4" barrel, bobbed hammer). (8.) Ruger Bisley - rechambered in 475 Linebaugh (9.) Dan Wesson 445 Super Mag Siloutte Revolver. (10.) Thompson Contender. |
Hahaha, how bout 1?
HK USP .45, that's all i got. Why? It works, won't jam, and most likely won't ever break considering .45's are $12+/box and I'm usually broke! |
1. Sig P226
2. Sig P229 3. Sig P229 4. Sig P225 5. Ruger MkII 6. Smith & Wesson 617 7. Smith & Wesson Model 60 8. Beretta 92FS or Brigader 96 9. Colt 1911 10. Colt King Cobra |
There ought to be a USP 45 Tactical model in there somewhere.
S&W 686 should be in there too. Won't jam and a FTF won't stop the action. Not to mention .357 Magnum doesn't stop for much.
OK, here goes...
1911 45 Gold Cup 45 SW 625 45acp python SW 66 snub Speed Six Ruger snub HK P7 M8 Glock 26 Diamondback 22 SW 9mm hammerless revolver (mod. ?) Yeah, I could live with these. Stay Safe |
Colt 1911 .45
Ruger Mark II .22 Python HK USP .45 Tactical. Glock 17 S&W Bodyguard .38 HK USP .40 compact. Browning HiPower 9mm That'll do. |
- Not surprised that HKs and Sigs made such a strong showing.
- Surprised the HK P7 made it so late. - Surprised at the weak Glock showing. - Surprised there aren't more 1911s listed. - Glad to see the KelTec - Glad BostonTerrier extended it to wheel guns (my oversight). Any others lists? |

Ok...I'll take a stab, with the disclaimer that my answer may change tomorrow! The parentheses are WHY, as requested by the poster of the thread.
1) Larry Vickers Special Springfield 1911 in .45acp (simply the best) 2) Les Baer ThunderRanch Special Presentation Model (hey, this is fantasy...so I'll add the $3,000 fancy engraving) 3) Pre World War II German Luger 9mm Navy model (the most beautiful killing machine ever designed) 4) Any of Bob Munden's Colt revolvers in .45LC (he is the finest single-action revolver gunsmith around) 5) Ruger .454 Casull (that is one bad MF) 6) Desert Eagle Super .50 Magnum (also a bad, bad mutha) 7) H&K USP Expert .45acp (not only an H&K, but an extremely accurate one too...in my favorite defense caliber) 8) Sig Sauer P210 9mm (very classic, accurate, sexy, and expensive 9mm) 9) Ed Brown 1911 .22 conversion (hell, I don't even know if he makes one, but that would be one fine .22 plinker in my favorite style...the 1911) 10) Smith and Wesson Model 19-3 blued with 2.25" barrel (quite possibly my favorite double-action revolver, and I don't even own one in blued condition!!! Still looking for a good one...) BONUS TRACK 11) Any handgun given to me free. |

1. Burns "Best Grade" 1911, set up for .45 Super -
Shoots .45 ACP as well, and if you're gonna have a 1911 it may as well be one of the best. 2. Glock 22 with additional G17 barrel and mags - a rugged general purpose gun that can be converted to fire either common round 3. S&W 686+ - for .38 Spl as well, with target length barrel and scope mount 4. S&W .44 Mag - for .44 Spl as well, configured as above 5. Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt - because they make a gorgeous SA revolver, and .45 Colt is cool 6. Ruger Single Six with both .22LR and .22WMR cylinders - to shoot all kinds of .22 7. S&W Airweight .38 +P - for CCW 8. Browning HP - because it's a classic 9. Desert Eagle in .50AE - in case I'm attacked by small-block Chevy engines 10. SIG P220 - not a big fan of SIGs but it'd be nice to have one. I was going to say a Savage Striker or Remington XP100 in .308, or maybe a Professional Ordnance AR pistol, but those aren't *really* pistols. |

Quoted:
[quote 9. Desert Eagle in .50AE - in case I'm attacked by small-block Chevy engines quote] Thats about all that chevy small blocks are good for. 1)SIG P226-BEST 9mm double action ever made 2)SIG P220-BEST .45 double action ever made 3)H&K USP .45-On par with P220 4)IMI Desert Eagle .357 or .44mag- if anyone ever actually shot a .50AE they would probaly agree. 5) 1911,debating between Colt,Kimber, and SA 6)Colt Anaconda .44-way cool 7)Walther P.22- coolest new .22 out there 8)------- 9)------- 10)------Not decided |
Its my opinion that everyone should have AT LEAST 1 HK, 1 SIG, and 1 quality 1911 style pistol in their top 10 list.
No flame taken.Don't get me wrong,I would'nt pass up on shooting a .50AE Desert Eagle,as long as you bought the ammo! Actually I was hoping to get flamed on my blashpemy of chezzies! Everyone must know who is first on race day! |
First what? to arrive at the track early in order to swap out the car's motor that somehow blew up while it was riding down there on the trailer? It takes Chevy power to haul a Ford racecar and it's 9 spare motors! |

Seeing as how our stupid laws don't allow me to carry/buy a handgun yet... I can't really start a collection yet.
but here is what I would want if the constitution actaully applied to 20 year olds. 1) Glock 23 2) STI 1911 TROJAN 3) Walther p99 4) Walther p22 5) HK USP Tactical 6) HK USP Compact .40 7) Walther PPK 8) Glock 18c 9) Glock 19 10) Taurus .454 Casull Darn! 10 is too dang small of a limit!!!!!!! that would be the First Ten in the first Gun Safe! The Following List would go in the second gun safe. 1) S&W Titanium .22WMR Revolver.(Mod#?) 2) Ruger Mark II 22/45 3) Browning Buckmark Feild 5.5" Heavy Barrel 4) Colt Gold Cup 5) Kimber Pro Carry 6) Savage striker in .260rem 7) Springfield XD in .40s&w 8) Gaurdian 380 9) Kel_tec p-9 10) Khar p-9 Third safe will come up later |

10! I can name that list in 5!
45acp: 1911A1, stock model. Target models too tight for combat 9 MM: Beretta 92F (best ergonomics, best shooter imho)**fitted for silencer 22LR: Ruger MKII w/ Silenced Bull Barrel 32 ACP: Keltec P32 (for high concealability in suit or shorts Any SAA copy in 357/38 That's it. I've got the major calibers covered for ammo availability. I've got size & concealability covered. I've got covert [silenced] 22LR. I would have trouble deciding whether to strap on the 45 or the 9.. I like them both. The 45 is stronger close in, the 92 will make a long shot a little better. Decisions, decisions...If I'm late for the battle you'll know why. I just couldn't decide what to wear. ps: Now try to limit yourself to only 30 holsters for those 10 pistols! |
Is this a gun collection or pieces you actually shoot and are good with? I shoot around 10,000 pistol rounds per year. I don't believe you can divide that total into 10 different pistols and be proficient with each. Pick a pistol that works in a a major caliber. Practice with it until manipulation is second nature. Buy another just like it for a backup in case your number one gun breaks.
Maybe a smaller gun for a bug. But 10 pistols? This is not an "ultimate battery". It is a safe queen collection. It is a gee whiz look what I've got, gosh golly collection. What is being accomplished here, besides keeping gun manufacturers happy? We don't need more weapons. We need more proficiency and training with the ones we own. "Owning a gun doesn't make you a gunman any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician." Jeff Cooper |
I have a few handguns I bought ONLY because they are "neat" or "gee whiz"..(1892 ordinance revolver,or Nagant gas seal anyone?)
Anyhow, the "ten" 1- S&W "Triplelock" in .44 special 2- S&W 38/44 HD, preferably early production. 3- M-1905 Colt Browning in .45 4- M-1910 Colt Browning in .45 5- Mk VI Webley, Officers version. 6- Walther "AP" in 7.65 Luger. 7- Mauser 714, with stock/holster 8- Glock 18. 9- Stechkin APS. and the last, which will surely bring all kinds of questions about my sanity.. 10- "Papa" Nambu, with stock/holster and spares.. Meplat- |
Not in any specific order...
1. Glock 17 2. Glock 18 3. Glock 19 4. Glock 20 5. Glock 21 6. Glock 22 7. Glock 23 8. Glock 26 9. Glock 30 10. Glock 36 You know, I seem to see a trend??? To bad you limited me to 10 as I can think of a few I missed but these would do! LOL! |
Ruger superblackhawk .44 7 1/2inch
Beretta 92fs brig S&W 22a or ruger .22/45 S&W 586 .357 4inch HK SOCOM (with silencer of course) Savage striker in .308 glock 27 S&W centenial That's all I could think of right now. |
Maybe some of us don't want to be any good with a gun, we just want to collect them. If I had to limit myself to just one to "get good with" I don't think I'd be interested. |
Hey, let's face it... not all firearms enthusiasts necessarily want to be backyard commandos, "gunmen", or competition shooters. Not to disparage anyone who does, but assuming everyone has the same goals is probably not accurate. |
In no particular order:
Glock 17 Glock 18 (if I could) Glock 27 Glock 32 Heckler & Koch USP45 Tactical Colt Anaconda 6" Colt King Cobra 6" Colt 1911-A1 Sig Sauer P220 Desert Eagle 50AE (just because...) |
Hmmmm
1- HK MK23 SOCOM w/supressor 2- HK MK23 SOCOM w/supressor 3- HK MK23 SOCOM w/supressor 4- Beretta 92G 5- Beretta 92G 6- HK USP Tac 7- HK USP Tac 8- IMI Lone Eagle 9- Keltec P11 10- IMI Desert Eagle .50 AE Sigman...to say that about chevy small blocks, you must be none other than a ford guy. Ill put my 5.7L LT1 against your 5.0 or 4.6 for POS any day. Dont give a rats ass if its a cobra too. |

Kinda like owning several high performance cars and just having your learners permit. What is the point of owning guns and not knowing how to shoot? |

He doesn't mean he doesn't know how to shoot. Just, to use your analogy, just because you have a high performance car doesn't mean you have to go out on the drag every Saturday night and race, or ever really meet the performance limits of the car. I like my guns. I enjoy shooting them. I have no interest in becoming a competition shooter. I have no interest in being a mall ninja. I shoot just fine, and to the level of proficiency I care to shoot at. That doesn't make me less of a man than Tubbs. |

Add a good quality wheelgun in .454/.44/or equivalent. Oh, and a Uzi. 9,.45 and .22. Hmm.. what else? I think that is it. 7. Beat that. TR |
I'd say I'm better than average, but I am at the point where dramatic improvement in shooting skills would require a substantial investment of time, which is something I'm short on. Besides, what's the point? I don't plan to compete and I don't work in law enforcement, so I feel that putting a lot of effort into honing easily-lost skills to no purpose is wasted effort. More to the point, I'm interested in collecting a wide variety of guns, which would preclude choosing one as a "favorite" to practice with to get really good. |
That's easy: 10 - Sig Sauer P226's + 30 - 15 rd. Hi-caps + 150,000 rds. of CCI-Speer +P 9mm 124gr. Gold Dots.
