I saw a "National Mach" M1 Carbine today.
WTF? what mach would you shot with it?

I would be cool to have a littel M1 but I did not think you could shot them of 100-150 yards.

Is there 150 yard mach or will it shot farther?

It will skip once at 225 yards. I bought one a few monthes back, and am not that happy with it. I bought it thinking it would be neat, but that has worn off and mine will be going up for sale shortly. National Match? Sounds like a sales pitch to me.

50. CARTRIDGE, CAL. .30, M1. -- a. This cartridge (Figure 22) can be identified by
its characteristic shape and size, which differ considerably from all other cal. .30 cartridges.
The nose of the bullet is round and the cartridge case is cylindrical throughout. The complete
assembly is 1.68 inches in length and weighs approximately 195 grains.
b. The average velocity of the bullet at 53 feet from the muzzle is 1900 feet per second;
The approximate maximum range 2000 yards; and the maximum chamber pressure 40,000
pounds per square inch.
c. The limit of accuracy at 100 yards is a mean radius of 1.5 inches and at 400 yards, 4
inches.

I shot a "micro-caliber" match with a borrowed carbine, once. At 300 yards, it put a 2 foot pattern of bullets on the target. Seemed OK for a WWII idea.

The M1 Carbine is underated as a CQB weapon. Jim Crillo found it to be a more effective manstopper than either the .38 spec handgun or 12 Guage shotgun. It offer better terminal balistics than the 9mm subguns, with less muzzle blast than a 5.56mm carbine. It also has a more PC appearance and cost less than the 9mm Subguns or 5.56mm carbines.

Jim Crillo has killed more crooks than any cop alive today. The crooks he shot with the M1 Carbine went down faster and more reliably than the ones he shot with a 4" .38 spec or a 12 gauge with 00 buckshot.

I assumed the knowledgable gun owners in this forum knew who Jim Crillo was, sorry.

The M1 Carbine's rear sight has a maximum range setting for 300 yards.

I shot my "National Match" Carbine in a reduced range Garand Match last month. I held first place in the offhand, and rapid sitting. A Garand took rapid prone. A 1903A3 took slow prone. Came in 4th overall. What a blast to see these vintage US arms in competition. Love that Carbine! Shoots where I point at 100 yards. Would hate to give it up.

I think M1 Carbines are underrated. They are preban, high capacity and offer more power than 9mm(and probably as good as or better than a .40 or .45) carbine. They also work great in 3-gun competition (work best inside 150 yards). They handle like a Ruger 10/22. I always recommend them to anyone wanting to get into 3gun, but who is short on money for an AR.

The poor performance was from it's being compared to the 30-06 in WWII. The 30-06 was punching through walls, fences, and trees, and the .30 carbine can't do that. It's a great close quarters gun.

My first deer rifle was Dad's M-1 carbine with a micro-groove barrel, (never heard of a NM M-1 carbine) it will still shoot inside a quarter at 100 yards all day. The max effective range for deer-sized game IMHO is 110-125 yards.

The greatly underestimated effectiveness of the M-1 Carbine in non-Military settings depends on the use of soft-nosed bullets, or better yet, Hollowpoints. The latter often have ftf malfs, so soft point ammo is used much more often.
So configured, it is roughly equivalent to the 357 Mag round, a highly effective round.
Jim Cirillo needs no recommendation from me, his record speaks for itself.

Shot my carbine in the Garand Match at Camp Perry. 200 yards. Actually shot better than my team mates.

None of my references mention "National Match" carbines so I would be quite suspicious of it. Perhaps they mean "National Postal Meter", one of the dozen manufacturers of carbines.

Great little guns. But getting very expensive.

They are pretty whimpy, in My opinion, I've read some books about the Korean War, Frozen Chosin, and they didn't fare too well. They don't function in cold weather, and the small, slow bullets didn't always penetrate the heavy quilted Chi-Com clothing.

Thread is starting to wander isn't it. I won't help.

Bad reputaton of carbine is because of improper deployment, not the carbine itself. It was never ment to be a front line infantry weapon. It was very handy and light therefore popular. It was meant to be more of a defensive weapon for soldiers who usually would have only been issued a .45, or overly burdened with a large heavy rifle.

It's "match" and "little" and I love my WWII Inland M1 carbine.
