.303 British?

I have a lot of .303 ammo and SMLEs, etc. Great round!

Hey- it worked in the Bren, Lewis, Maxim and Vickers guns, and quite well, I might add.

As a lefty I am fucked on getting the bolt guns I would prefer to have. So if you did a .300 WSM I would hook up for sure. Winchester and Browning have told me over the phone that 2003 is best case senario for a left handed .300 WSM and at that the guy said dont hold your breath.

A .300 Short Magnum.  Either Remington OR Winchester.

**Edited to add that back in June I spoke with ArmaLite's VP for LE products and he said AL was "working" on a .300 Short Magnum version of the AR10.  Asked if he meant the .300 WSM, he said the .300 Remington Short Magnum was looking like a better choice.  Didn't ask the reason tho'.  Told him I wanted on the list for one.

.260 Remington

**Bwaahahahahaa...pardon the edit Nekkid but I have to add that .270 Win HAS to be the choice whether it fits or not OR whether of not anyone makes it... .270 HAS to be the correct choice.

Arock

Okay I git it now. IMO the deer or target will never know the difference.

**And once again you are absolutely CORRECT!!

303 is a good and proven round.....what you have to keep in mind here is the ar10 action and stay within the shortened case of 308....243.....7-08...etc........

Actually, this is a good idea.....and if mags were only available in 10 rounders ....to start off....that would be ok.....it`s a decent, cheap round, and I sure would get one.........sks` suck.....ak`s are too damn finicky, if you can find a good one.....waste of time and money.....there are a lot of 7-62 fans who wish colt (or somebody) still made them.........

But, I don't think it's possible.  I think the .338LM is far too long of a cartridge.  We have to stick to short action rounds like the .308, don't we?

uuhh..isn't that what the Armalite M15A2/A4 is??

Why would I want to lug around a longer & heavier upper & lower receiver than a standard
mil-spec M16 clone??????

Are you alleging that the U.S. Army modified a Armalite AR10 to shoot 5.56mm ammo ??
Seems like trying to reinvent the wheel or fix what ain't broke!

The increased size if the mag-well & magazine on an AR10 accomadates the longer case for the 7.62x51(.308) cartridge BUT I Fail to understand how that would improve ammo capacity for the shorter OAL 5.56mm (.223) case??

I assume the slight increase in width might allow for more than 20rds in .223 BUT how is that better than a standard USGI 30rd magazine??

OR a 100rd Beta-Mag ????????

enlighten us please!

I think these have all been hit but....

1st Choice:  260 Remington (6.5-08)
2nd Choice:  300 WSM
3rd Choice:  22-250 or 22-243

Now for something new....

How about a 338-08...  not a high demand item but a great bear cartridge just the same!

OAl of a 22-250 case is 1.912
OAL of a 308 is 2.015

300 WSM would be sweet!  I'd buy that 10 T upper for sure.  The 22-250 would be pretty cool and you would probably get even more of my money if it was offered.  Don't know about tthe lenght of the cartrige. but one chambered in 6.5-284 would be awsome too.  Hell while I'm at it I wan't a semi auto 50 bmg from Armalite too.

Essentially, that is how the AR15/M16 came into being.  The AR10 came first, but the Army adopted the M14.  ArmaLite was later asked to come up with a smaller caliber version.

Damn it.

I'm half way to a .50 cal.

I can't afford anything right now.

If I could I would take a 30 cal short magnum, either Winchester or Remington, which ever one will be the most popular five years from now.

I might be able to afford one by next year this time though.

Seriously,

From a marketing stand point, I think you only have 2 choices.

1. Go with a magnum like the 300 WSM, or better yet a rem ultra mag as they are getting all the attention lately.

2. Go with a great (fast) varmint round like the 22-250 or maybe 220 swift.

Both of these would put Armalite back into the limelight in the gun magazines and would sell like hotcakes.

There's a huge market for the 22-250. Lots of Varmint hunters, and others that want a light recoil gun with high velocity and flat trajectory. I predict it would become the hot-caliber for the AR15 crowd. Of course, it won't replace the 223 in sales due to ammo costs.

The 300wsm should sell to the bigger is better crowd. Worked for the 44 and 50 Desert Eagles.

You won't see any great interest with any of the comtemporary big game rounds (270, 30'06, etc.). Plinkers don't care if it's a 270 or 308. Most hunters as usual are going to pick a bolt gun for deer and the like.

BTW: Putting muzzle breaks on the majority of your AR10's is hurting sales. When people think Armalite they think quality and those muzzle breaks look hokey. A brake that was slim and looked more along the lines of the normal AR15 flash hider would be the hot ticket. Say with grooves to simulate the flash hider and holes on top for muzzle control. However, still better to go with the varmint/sniper rifle look and just drop the brake on the large caliber rifles.

Also, you should start putting a PSG1 type of grip on your AR10T's. That's the sniper type of look people want. T

he Camo is a great idea, but I don't think enough people know about them.

6.5/284 over the 30 short mags.  Why?...6.5/284 can use the exististing bolt and may feed through the M14 mags easier.  It also shoots as flat or flatter than the 30's and Norma is making brass, Redding dies and the awesome 6.5 bullets.  For a 30 to shoot as flat you'd need 180+grn bullets and you'd run into length problems.

Actually, the AR10 was developed first to compete in the 7.62x51Nato round against the M14.  When the idea for a smaller round was conceived, the AR15 was developed from the AR10.

In last month's issue of Small Arms Review, there is an article about making an AR-10 upper in 300 WSM. It required a new barrel, bolt, and a gastube wrapped around the barrel like the pigtail gas tube, but for an 20in barreled AR-10
