I have recently purchased an H&K USC .45 This is one seriously sweet gun. ( it's the carbine based on the UMP ) I swear to God you can drive nails with it. Have any of you had a chance to shoot one? What are your impressions of it?

I shot a few mags thru one.  My first thought was "Wow!  It feels just like my SL8 when I pull the trigger!"  In other words, it has very little recoil, and you can feel the bolt moving.  I really like the gun...it'll be better when someone designs a way to use Thompson mags.

I've got one too, along with an HK 94. I really like it, and am not afraid to use it as my "daily driver" at the range!

Just can't bring myself to accept the funky stock and 10 round limited mags. I'm sure, like most all H&K's its well designed. I just can't give into the establishment.

WOW...I just saw a catalog with one in it today, ironically.

How much are they running to purchase?  They look like an MP5 with a longer barrel and are REAL bullet shooting out of them!

Any suggestions on WHERE to get a good deal?

HKPro.com has a deal for them right now. For $1059 you get a USC, two magazines and a Buffertech mag cinch. For $1300 you can get the USC in black or OD green, instead of gray.

I don't think I could bring myself to purchase a $1000 carbine that only uses 10 round mags. I did handle one all pimped up with the KAC foregrip and a red dot sight at the NRA convention though. Damn it was nice! It pointed and handle really well. It's a shame that the UMP 45 can't be sold. It's enough to make a man convert to Islam and join the Taliban I tell you.

Actually I think the USC is based on the UMP design.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference in the design of the MP5 and the UMP?

I have one and love it too.  I'm waiting for my Form 1 to come back to SBR it.  It will need a Black dye job too from ARS to complete it.

Beats the hell out of me...I haven't gotten the opportunity to shoot either one.  Oh, I think the UMP is only made in 45 acp and 40 S&W.  I'm sure ther's something else but I don't know.

You must be joking about that bulletin board above.  That is Todd Bailey's personal advertisement for his POS's.  If anyone there says that there is anything wrong with his "guns" the message get's immediately deleted.  Todd himself seems to sign on with about 5 different names touting how good his "products" are.  I would stay away from that board like the plague.

The mp5 uses the delayed roller locking mechanism, and the UMP is a straight blowback.

Thanks for the info! I had no idea.

I believe Cavalry Arms was working on a conversion similar to Toad's SL-8 conversion that would give you the required # of US parts, convert the gun to accept some other gun's hi-cap mags (don't think it was every decided which mags to use), and replace the stock with a UMP looking PG one (folding stock fixed open, of course).  However, I believe it has been put off indefinately.
