$36 is an average price for late WWII OD Garand belts and dirt cheap for WWI 1903 or early khaki WWII Garand belts.
I just picked up a Boyt 43' dated khaki Garand belt, all snaps and metal excellent, small fraying on a couple pockets for $47 this weekend. I thought I got a good deal. |

No, just new to the Garand thing. The $36 was for khaki WWII reproductions. Thanks Deanh, I'm just looking for something to throw clips in, not really too interested in historical significance (yet). |

There are commercial versions in OD and black cotton canvas with black snap closure devices in lieu of lift-the-dot GI type fasteners.
Quality seems OK, BUT the spacing of the grommets on the bottom is too wide to permit attachment of canteens, pouches, etc. Have you considered either an SKS chest belt, or simply carrying spare clips in bandoleers? BTW, the SKS pouch works GREAT for M1 Carbine 15-rd mags. |

Sportsman's Guide has a belt for $15 that is very unauthentic looking, made in India, and works perfectly. I actually like it better than "real" belts.

You want a collector's belt or a useful belt?

A useful belt. Hit a gunshow today, only found one belt. A 1913, little rusted and tattered for $65. Was probably worth it for a collector but thats not what I want it for. DFBonnett, looked on the Sportsmans Guide website, saw a reproduction for $30. Is that the one you are talking about? |

Useful belt for cheap? Try an SKS chest pouch with one wadded-up small newspaper page (or equivalent) inserted in the bottom of each pouch. Works OK but the brass is slightly visible, depending how much paper you insert. This might work better with some sort of wood block insert in the bottom and a pull tab system to remove the clips, but it works to my satisfaction for hunting purposes.

You wont find anything more handy for carrying M-1 clips than the six pocket bandoleers that they come in. My dad was in with the 45th Infantry division in Korea and he tells me they tossed out their ammo belts in favor of the pistol belt and carried their clips in the bandoleers.

Forgive my ignorance. Never heard of the 6 pocket bandoleer, have a pic by chance? Is it made of similar thin material like the AR15 bandoleers?
Already have SKS chest bandoleers. Might end up using one for the Garand but looking at other options too. |
