I love my Springfield 1911A1, but it would be just that little bit better if it was a double action How come "they" haven't made one?

They do make one, LDA by para-ordnance. Stands for Light Double Action. Its in all the magazines this month.

I tried the P/O LD when it came out last year. Didn't like the feel of the double stack mag. Bought a P229 Sig instead.

I agree that I was turned off by the idea at first, but after dry firing one, I am very intrigued. Not enough to buy one, but I would love to have some range time with it.

Very smooth trigger pull, very light, as the name suggests. If only some of the other DOA guns could learn something from this beautiful trigger...

The only review I have here at the house is in "Concealed Carry Handguns 2001" from Harris (the publisher of combat handguns). The article is by Mike Boyle. I'm sure I have seen at least another article or two at the newsstand in the last week or two.

I tried one as well and couldn't get used to the width of the grip. My glock 20 which is the same width (?) is fine. It was kinda weird though, shot well, but just the same I went with a Kimber.

I don't know if its onthe shelves yet, but I remember hearing that a single stack LDA exists. I love the double stack, however i have spent all my money on rifles and motorcycles this year. Oh well, next year it will be mine, oh yes it will be mine.

You might try the used market for the Colt Double Eagle 45.ACP DA 1911 Series 90 I & II. Was available as:
Double Eagle Commander. current price 425.00 to 625.00
Officers Model. 425.00 to 625.00
Officers Lightweight Model. 295.00 to 625.00

Yes it is available in a single stack version. It is also available in an officer size model that I am considering for CCW. I am just waiting for a few more field reports. I did read where a NJ police department had started using the Hi-cap LDA about a year ago and had experienced no problems.

Why would you want a 1911 without it's single finest quality, the clean SA trigger?

Think how much better you could shoot a Glock if it had a decent (e.g. 1911-ish) trigger. Why on earth anyone would want to make a 1911 into a a Glock triggered abonination is beyond me.

I have owned several double action autos including Taurus PT99, Beretta 92, S&W 645,4506, and a Glock 22. I currently own a Sig P220 I carry as a duty pistol. I also own a Springfield Armory M1911. I CANNOT for the life of me figure out why someone would take the best trigger and safety system and ruin it with a double action mechanism. All of my other autos including my current SIG pale in comparison to the Springfield. I'd always believed in the "superiority" of a double action pistol until I took the time to get to know the M1911. If I didnt have to own a DA pistol for duty I wouldnt! I will say that with a double action being MANDATED for me I would prefer an M1911 type but without that I'd not buy one for personal use. Rather than hope for a frankengun take the time to get to know your SA. You'll probably prefer it. It's the fastest, safest design you could ask for.

A few years back, Larry Seacamp, of the itty-bitty Seacamp defense pistol devised and made a conversion kit for converting a 1911-type pistol to da/sa. I think it was similar system but not exact for the Colt Double Eagles. I have never seen one except in pictures.

The wonderfull single action trigger and thumb saftey are part of what makes the 1911 the best.

The colt double eagles did not go over too well.....obvious as to why they were discontinued.....some things simply need to stay the way they were originally designed!.........

I had Lightweight Officers Double Eagle. Long trigger reach and heavy pull. Sold it. Love my 7/45 LDA Para. Great trigger, totally reliable and accurate. This is the most negative comments I have seen on any post about the LDA. If you don't like a the double action trigger, don't buy one. I like mine very much.
