Rifles chambered for 6.5x55 Swede?

I'm looking for a good target/deer rifle chambered for the 6.5x55 Swede. Why the Swede? Mainly because I already reload for it in my Ljungman and have kind of developed a soft spot for it. That, and its excellent, flat shooting performance and accuracy have got me sold.
I've been searching for rifles and nearly 90% of whats available are reworked Swedish Mausers and a few $4K Blasers or European combo guns. Every once and a while a Howa 1500 or the odd Winchester or Remington will surface but not often. I have heard bad things about the accuracy of the Howa's and opinions on the sporterized Mausers run from glowing to pure hatred.
What says the hive?

Right up my alley...

I have 3 Ruger M77's. One I chopped to a 17" bbl carbine {and added a magnum front sight to} and one I added Ruger factory sights to. They are excellent rifles and IMO the best 6.5x55 out there. I do make a few slight mods to the M77/Hawkeye. 1} freefloat bbl 2} bevel ejector and ejector groove in bolt 3} relieve tang area on stock 4} epoxy bedd recoil lug and tang bottom 5} hone trigger to 3-4 lb break.

I've killed elk, deer and varmints and coyotes with these guns and they are really excellent guns.

I should have mentioned the Sako and Tikka. Unfortunately those two are a lot more than I can afford. I need to keep it in the vicinity of $700-$800, which puts me solidly in CZ or Ruger territory.
EVR, what kind of velocities can you safely get out of the Ruger with hand loads with 140 grain bullets? I'm guessing the more modern sporting rifles could be loaded to Skan levels instead of keeping with the old military loadings. Also, what part of Idaho are you from? I'm originally from the pan handle, Bonner County, and that terrain looks pretty familiar.

I had a Remington 700 Classic onc, nice rifle can probably still find one if you googled it, had a chance to buy a Winchester 70 Featherweight years ago, beautiful rifle should have jumped.

I got my hands on a Savage in 270, and am in the process of getting a barrel for it. Easy change.

I have a steyr prohunter mountain rifle In 6.5 Swede that i picked up used years ago and i absolutely love it. I have taken multiple whitetail, boar, and even a bobcat with it; I also love enjoy bench shooting it at the range. I love the Cartridge and have been very impressed with the rifle. I could go on and on about the 6.5x55 round, but since you were asking about a rifle recommendation... I like the feel of the steyr and accuracy has always been good even with cheap ammo; the recoil is minimal (mostly a benefit of the round and probably not the rifle); Trigger is nice; has detachable magazine; easy to use safety; mine has a 20" barrell which I like ( makes it easy to handle). My 2 cents.

That is what I was going to suggest. You can do anything with a savage. With the barrel nut wrench and a set of headspace gages you have options.

Here's my "Tweed".

1903 Oberndorf Turk with a Swede 1896 barrel fitted.

If you want new made barrels in 6.5x55 with the proper twist rate just call Lothar Walther in Georgia.

About 10yrs ago I passed on a Norwegian Krag in 6.5 swede(still in military trim). The stock was badly cracked, I often regret not having picked it up anyway.

This and I believe I ran across a Winchester one time in 6.5. Might have been a Featherweight too.

ETA: Husqvarna chambered rifles in 6.5 too...duh.

I was watching two Winchester Featherweights on Gunbroker. One was NR and sold for over $900, the reserve on the other was never met. I can't afford that.
Anybody have any experience with the Howa 1500 in 6.5? Research shows that some guys have gotten good accuracy from theirs and others struggle to get theirs to group. Handloading seems to help a lot, especially with longer, heavier bullets,(129-140 grains) which is all I load for mine anyway.

I had a chance maybe 15 years ago to buy a Feather weight at a local shop for like $450, I believe it even came with the mounts, great looking gun, should have bought it.
