I have been wanting a 3rd gen rifle such as scar, acr or xcr and today I found one at a very good price. The only thing is its a 6.8 cal rifle, I have already ordered a 5.56 conversion kit from kermit.

Should I keep the 6.8 set up in addition my 5.56 conversion or sell it ? Is 6.8 a worth while round? Ammo seems expensive.

Also how tight do you screw down the barrel nut, hand tight or is there certain pound weight to tighten it to? Will a allen wrench work on the barrel nut?

If you hunt, I would deffinetly keep it... Thats a hog killer for sure..

It's a good round, if you plan to shoot it keep it.

The barrel screw should be tightened to hard hand tight, no girly handing it. Like tight as you can easily get it by hand then 1/8th more or so.

200 - 250 in lbs

I have an XCR, 5.56 version, 16" lite, with the Troybuilt BUIS. The Cerakote color is olive drab, Subdued black EoTech 557, and a Surefire US army weapons lite with the IR filter. I've got one of the Angled Foregrips on it that I at first did not like, but like it now.
The weapon functions flawlessly. No hang-ups, FTF or FTE.
I would not get rid of it for a change to anything. But, I do still have an AR platform I like as well.

Yup. 1/8th turn past contact is all it takes. 200-250 in lb.

The XCR armorers tool kit: an allen wrench set, a small crescent wrench, a couple punches and something to whack them with. That's it and that's all the tools it takes to strip the rifle down to the last pin and spring.

The 6.8 is an awesome round, but there is no reason why it should cost more than .308 ammo. If ammo was more widely available and more reasonably priced, I would consider it a keeper. Personally I wont be adding a 6.8 to my collection until then.

Congrats on getting an awesome rifle.

I'd sell the 6.8 parts simply because i have no need for another (expensive) caliber.

What's the going rate on a used XCR these days? I paid $900 for a NY legal version with the fixed ACE tube stock, barrel shortened to 14.5, and a YHM brake pinned and welded. That was back in 2008.

$1,000-$1,500 depending on location, condition and motivation of buyer and seller that I have seen.

Another thing about the 6.8 kit to consider. Apparently, magpul and I believe Noveske are doing some work with the 6.8 to make it more viable. If you believe what is being said, alot of ammo should be hitting the streets sooner then later, hopefully driving the price down to realistic levels.

Besides, it is a great hunting round if you ever need to and its 1 screw and a bolt change away. (and you already have it :) )

I just got my conversion kits, it was so easy to change out. This rifle is what the acr should have been, I'm starting to like it alot.

The XCR was prototyped in 2004 and has been on the market since early 2006.
None of the parts interchange with its conceptual predecessors the RAV 2000 and M96.
It was a clean sheet design but the influence of the predecessors is still there as evidenced by the ergonomics and lack of muzzle jump they all share.

ACR stock is easy.
Getting a hold of a now out of production Ezed ACR stock adapter is going to be tough.

I replaced my original tube stock with the FAST and it really is a big improvement. Gives me a better cheek weld. I would buy it again if I needed one. Is it worth the $200+ they want for it, that is a personal thing, it was for me.
