I've been through the threads before, mechanical locks last forever, eLocks have issues, eLocks just as secure, etc, etc, etc...

How about a simple poll, What do you have or which would you pick on a new Amsec 6636 safe, an electronic lock or mechanical lock?

I have my current mechanical lock down pretty well, I flub the numbers once every 10 or so entries so a eLock may be more convenient. Just curious which camp this crowd is in now.

As long as it is for storage and quick-access/defense is not an issue with anything that's in there, I vote mechanical.

(That's what I chose FWIW.)

In before the "It's not a safe" crowd...

IMHO the electric crowd is a gimmick........full of fail. Good mechanical S & G or comparable.

I have seen mechanical locks fail. They can be delicate.

I'd be happy with an electronic lock as long as it had a backup override system. That being said; I only like electronic locks for their speed, and ease of use in a time of need compared with a mechanical lock. The only locks I would put on my safes would be a S&G lock though.

Get a good S&G mechanical lock and it will outlast you.
