If LocTite brand, use the blue or green. DO NOT use red.

I use 271 red Loctite for screws and little stuff. It holds better than the blue 242 and I can still remove it if necessary. I use the 609 green stuff for scopes in scope rings to keep them from moving.
Consider avoiding the 638 Loctite. It may be too much of a good thing. Super strong and requires heat to remove. |

Blue and green can normally be removed with just hand tools, but green is a little stronger. |

I recently used the Loc-Tite blue on scope ring screws before a class and I think I probably won't do that again.
1. You better be pretty sure about your eye-relief 2. See 1 3. If you ever do have to take it off, cleaning the threads is a bear. I think keeping the appropriate tools in your kit to make sure everything is hand tight may be a better solution in the long run. My $0.02, YMMV, Offer not valid in New Jersey. |

Whatever you do, use Loctite, otherwise the screws WILL shake loose. Blue works best on scope mount screws. Green only makes sense on iron sights that are loose in their dovetail (it's designed to migrate into place by capillary action). Never use red on scope mounts, as heat is required to remove, so removal in the field is no go, plus the heat could damage the optic.

i use a little dab of mrs weavers fingernail polish on the threads of my mounts and scopes and have never had them come loose.
