Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - can someone identify these rounds?

I just came across some rounds that I never have seen before and I was hoping someone could indentify them for me.  The only thing that is written on the round is R A 52.  The round is roughly an inch and 5/8th long.  I did not know where to post this so if it is the wrong section please let me know or move it.  Thanks in advance.  I just did some research and could it be from an m1 carbine?  sorry I am just really curious what it is.
