I bought some raufoss ammo in 7.62x54R at a gunshow this weekend. Does anyone have experience with this stuff?

Sorry to say, but I don't belive that type ammo was made in anything less than .50BMG.

Yep... AFAIK, anything under .50 BMG is a fake.

The gunshow at the Brown Convention Center this weekend had some for sale in 308.  At least that is what it said.  I guess anyone could paint the tip of the bullets a different color.

Well, yeah I realize that it's not real RAUFOSS ammo, but I can tell that the projectiles have been pulled and the so-called raufoss inserted because I can tell that the bullets have been handloaded by the marks on them. It is commercially loaded stuff I bought at the gunshow, and I wanted to really know how it works or if it works at all.

You got fucked- They might be some kind of tracer/mild incendiary round but thats it. They are not anything close to Raufoss round.

Forgive my ignorance but ... "raufoss" ammo?

What's the headstamp?  I just got some 9mm ammo with the headstamp FFV 89 and what I looked up said Raufoss.

The correct designation is "Raufoss", as it is named after the city in Norway.

It is a very hot .50 BMG round.  One google find calls it "An attempt to pack a 20mm punch in a 12.7mm cartridge.".

Plus you can't pack enough explosives into a 30 cal projectile to get even close to being a Raufoss round. To those that wonder about the explosives, anything under 1/4ounce of high explosives in a projectile is legal.

I bought these after being told that they were basically souped up incindiery rounds. They were called Raufoss, but I wasn't exactly expecting a true raufoss round like the real .50 BMG stuff. Should they work as advertised?

FFV is Förenede Fabriksverken, currently known as NAMMO Vanäsverken, a Swedish ammo factory. Nammo Raufoss headstamp is RA.

Yes they make other ammo, but they dont make exploding/incidiary/fragmenting (MP)ammo in anything other than 50 BMG.

If anyone believes otherwise I have it in any caliber you want for 50 bucks a pop.

Yes they make other ammo, but they dont make exploding/incidiary/fragmenting ammo in anything other than 50 BMG for the U.S.

The 40mm x 51 PPHE MK285 is also imported to the US.

www.nammo.com/templates/Product.aspx?id=258

It has never been brought into the US for lowly civilian use besides in 50BMG.

It has never been sold to civilians, all Nammo Raufoss .50BMG multipurpose ammo on the civilian market is stolen. The government will not issue an export permit for sale to civilians and there is some fuzz here because the ammo has leaked to civilians.
