I'm planning on getting a 10-22 and using it for a good deal of my personal training at 25M. Its configuration mimicks most of the MBRs I own, or reasonably so.
So far, it appears that a stainless, birch-stocked version will have sufficient rigidity to allow me to use a sling, an imperative.
If you can mount a sling, and in use the sling does not distort the barrel, it will add 30% or more to your accuracy.
Maybe a couple of minor tweaks, such as an improved bolt hold-open and elongated mag release, better rear sight, most likely a trigger job, and that's it.
No decision yet on a scope, but most likely I will mount one so that it can be quickly and easily dismounted for use of iron sights.
The way milsurp ammo prices/availability are headed, I figure it will pay for itself in short order, with no decrease in the quality of my short-range training. I'll still train with the MBRs, but I'll save that for the longer ranges.
