Here are some pics of my first attempt at gun koting.
Before.

After. The color is matte black.

The upper and lower were black and the barrel and buffer tube were Bushy grey. I'm very happy with the results.
This is a Cooey .22 rifle I did yesterday. I'm embarassed to admit it's mine. The results of being young and stupid.
The before pic of some of the worst rust.

And the after pics. I refinished it with brushed stainless.

Where did you purchase the Gun Kote at? Brownells?
How about a quick list of directions? a how to?

I bought mine from The Shooting Edge up here.
I stripped the rifles, preheated them to "cook" any oil off, then let it cool and blasted it at 40 psi using 120 grit aluminum oxide.
Then I sprayed it with brake cleaner to remove any left over grease, crap.
Next I preheat it to approx 125F then spray it using an air brush at 20psi.
Once I'm done spraying it..I bake it in my oven for approx an hour at 325F.
These are the instructions as per the manufacturer.
Here is the stove we geared up for doing this.

It's very easy to do..getting set up and coming up with a "routine" is the hard part!

Came out lookin a lot better dont ya just love this stuff did you mod the chimny stove pipe in for a longer object or as a vent ?? i still have tan od and brown moly layin around gonna put it in the paint shaker its a year old so i wanna get it mixed well and use it up

Thanks for the compliments guys. the pics don't do the color justice.
The stove pipe part is where we do the barrels. It's a 6" pipe inside an 8" pipe with fiberglas insulation in between. We cut a hole in the top of the oven under the pipe. It works very well. We can get 350+ no problem in it. It will hold a 30" barrel without any hanging down in the oven.

yeh pls post i was gonna pick up a powder coat oven but this works better + i have class A (pre -insulated) chimney sectons from my last install left over at the store i never even thought of useing it to make the chamber larger

Here is the inside of the pipe. I have to grind the screws down a bit and put a gob of silicone on them yet.

The hole in the stove.

A 12 gauge barrel hanging in the pipe.

Here is the damper I made for the cap. We tried it with the cap shutting the pipe off completely and we couldn't get it above 200F.
According to a friend that is an appliance repairman..we needed to make a hole in the top so the hot air would escape. After I made this modification the temp shot up to 300F. We set the oven temp control on 450F or so and adjust the temp using the damper.

It seems to. Takes barrels about 20 minutes to cool down enough to touch.
We do barrels seperate from receivers,etc due to the temp difference between the oven and in the stove pipe.
The piece of brake line sticking out the side of the pipe is for our thermometer probe. We have one in the pipe and one in the oven.

The before pics were pretty bad

The after pics were great. That has to be a good feeling, seeing the results.

Now you need to re-model that kitchen.

Striker - how is the Gun Kote holding up? I am trying to decide between GK and the Norrell's product right now to re-finish my Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry in a flat black color.

Rodent..that stove is in "man land"..to the right of it is the blasting cabinet..and to the right of the cabinet is the air compressor! Unfortunately..I ran out of room for the beer fridge.

Thanks for the compliments guys..due to my cheapo camera the upper looks a different shade then the lower but they do match.
Blackgun_fun..I haven't had a chance to abuse it yet. Service rifle season hasn't started.

However..I practiced on a short piece of barrel and chamber and after it was baked..we tried to scratch it by dragging a knife blade across it and it wouldn't scratch the gun kote off. It made it shiny but that was it.
