Anyone else see this from the SHOT show pics  ??

Wonder how this will compare to a .260 REM(6.5-08)   or the 6.5 Grendel

One and the same.

Completely wrong. Basically the 6.5x47 is based on the .308 brass, while the Grendel is based on the 7.62x39 brass.

More energy (higher velocity/heavier bulletweights)

isnt the .260 a .308 necked down to 6.5?
is the lapua round going to have stronger brass for higher pressure?

What's the OAL on the 6.5 Grendal?  Got to be close to 47mm.  OAL on .308 is 51mm and the Grendals relation to the 7.62x39 is fairly distant.  Up until the releases at SHOT, 6.5Grendal ammo was only made by Lapua, so I don't see why Lapua would come out with a new round so similar to the one they just created.

6.5 Grendel:

Case length is 39mm. Case head diameter is .445". Case capacity is 35.0 grains of water and about 32.5 grains powder. The cartridge was developed to maximize performance in the AR15 platform. In that role, magazine-length loads are limited to 2.255" OAL. However, in single-round loading or in a bolt-action rifle, OAL can be extended with bullets up to 130 grains as far as 2.420".

You are confusing length of the case with overall length.

6.5x47 Lapua is between the Grendel and .260 Rem in case length, it looks to be a shortened .260/.308 case.  My SWAG is it's for loading very long bullets to the same OAL as the 260/308.

so what's the point then, I could just go with a custom .260Rem built on a .308 AR
variant,  why the new Lapua cartridge ??

I really wish Winchester would standardize the  .264/6.5 WSM !!

The point I think would be to load very long bullets to the same OAL as 308.
