Not impressed with:

1. AR type retractable stock vs traditional SIG folder
2. Samco style pistol grip vs traditional SIG grip
3. Can live with AR mags, I mean it is somewhat of a benefit due to availability.
4. Butt ugly forearm.

Other than that, sign me up.

Not for you guys then?

Ok, I'll take the spares!  I think that's a sharp looking rifle!

I dunno.......it just does'nt do anything for me?  Damn that's disappointing, I was thinking 551.  WTF, is up with the buttstock, why not a folder?  Oh well, I still have the FS 2000 to look forward to.

That's a nice AR, but where's the...

oh.

Yes, that gun might be plastic...but I'd rather take an FS2000...

that new sig looks like a space age M4.  Lame.  I too was hoping for the 552 or other variants...

I wanted one...

Until they put the M-4 stock on it!

I have rifles with M-4 stocks.  I wanted a SIG damnit!

What a waste!

ugly, but the XM8 is still the ugliest.

Not perfectly executed but I'll take one just the same.  I wonder if there is a way to get it down to a subgun size via a barrel swap.

I got to agree with everyone else.. I allready have a couple Ar carbines..

Sig would have a winner if it was just the same as a 551.. WTF OVER?

Now here is a rifle I'd shave my balls to own..

Are you sure SIG designed this?
Man...I can see the AR mags, but the stock?
Dude...looks like a TAPCO creation.

damn all I wanted was a sig550, that's a huge disappointment. I'm really happy that yet another company is bringing us another rifle, it's just that I wanted a sig 550 or a 551, not that

Looks like a Tapco abortion.  WTF?  Are they not already tooled to make a domestic 550?  $1300-1700 starting no thanks.

would be a must have if it had a folding stock

As far as the rifle... I think I'll wait for the FN ARM.  Sig seems to have copied the worst parts of the AR (grip and stock) and that scope rail is abominable.

THANK GOD!!!!!!!

That is something I can avoid for some time....had they brought out a 551 clone like shown above, I'd have one as soon as possible.

The one shown here as the 556 I can wait on, or leave alone altogether.

Maybe I'm missing the uber tactical "ninja" hidden BUIS, but.... I can't seem to find it.

So... what? You buy the rifle, and have to pay for BUIS?

if you listen closely....you can hear the hearts of 1000 arfcommers breaking.

WTF, we can already buy ARs, we want to buy a sig, with sig features. biggest dissappointment since the shrike, and blended metal super bullets.

I suspect a lot of why it looks like it does instead of the original is cost.
It looks good enough for me: I like Swiss quality...

You can already get that "M4" style stock at Cheapre Than Dirt.  Seriously, it was in their most recent catalog in the AR section!

There is a school of thought that the 556 upper will drop onto a 55x series lower.

Mill off the top rail and the 55x HG's appear the same mounting wise, and viola, you have a 55x.

Yes, but the darned thing costs more than a thousand dollars. For that kind of money it should come as I want it. Remember the ridiculous civilian versions of the G36 and UMP that H&K tried to foist upon the U.S. market? They failed miserably because folks had no interest in paying big bucks for a gun that looks nothing like the 'real' thing. Sig is making a big mistake. I already have a gun that uses AR magazines- an AR! I have no use for the frankenrifle pictured above.

Probably has all those mods to meet US parts count and keep costs down.

Also, from a practical angle it will be a better rifle then the original.

Collapsable stock- Great for body armor
AR mags-   No need to buy new ones
rail handguards- Mount the sink on there
M16 type flash hider- better then the original, integral version.

Actually, now that the ban is over and the Top Notch/HDPS/etc conversions are available, I imagine that the SL8 and USC would sell much better than they did when they were originally on the market.

AR mags-   No need to buy new ones  Sig mags are nostalgic... its part of the rifle's character.  "Better?"  No.  Do I want them?  Yes.
rail handguards- Mount the sink on there I have an M4 with the sink hanging off of it... now that I've got the aftermarket bug out of my system, I'll take a clean 55X rifle, please.
M16 type flash hider- better then the original, integral version.  This is the only good point you have... but ONLY because I'd have to remove it in CT

Why did they drop the folding stock? That's the one thing I don't like about the AR system, no folding stock option.
I didn't really care for the Sig mags (rock-n-lock) when I got to shoot one, but now that I am becoming steeped in M14 lore it's growing on me.
All thos add-on geegaws are just silly and ugly. Form is not following function.
The original design in a semi, if comparable in price to an AR, I might have bought. Not this.

From a "end-user-customizable" standpoint, the stupid AR telestock makes sense.

There's literally a crapload of different telestocks you could put on that thing, not to mention the number of fixed AR stocks that would probably work.

From a "this is a SIG rifle" standpoint, it completely freaking sucks.

I'm holding out hope that there will be some adaptor or something released to allow you to put the SIG folder on there.

I'm looking at pictures of the 551 and 556 side by side, and the external design there is close...

I dunno - am I just a victim of wishful thinking, or does anyone else see the possibility?

WTF does everybody hate so much about the AR stock and grip?

I like telescopers over side folders.  Side folders are for AKs.

With an m4 style telescoper you can bump it in a notch or two to make room for body armor or a smaller shooter like the wife.

I think ya'll are just being whiny beeeeyotches for the heck of it.

I think it'll be a fine rifle, and as was already posted there are 3 variants.  Hopefully this is just the beginning of them selling additional rifles to civilians in the future.

I'll probably own one.  I might get an xcr and an fn as well.  This is about gun collecting for a lot of us, right?

How much you wanna bet this ugly ass SIG rifle has AK reliability and gives a 16" AR a run for its money with accuracy?  Isn't that what we all want in a rifle?  Maybe companies producing products like this will help put the pressure on all the AR makers to get their gas piston system shit together.

"I like telescopers over side folders. Side folders are for AKs."

The Sig 55x series is considered a AK variant, has a Kalashnikov gas system. I have allways wanted a STG90 service rifle...but this vesrion looks like a starship trooper prop.
My first thought is how do you get every bit of that uber tactical crap off of there and replace it with the real thing....the 20 something that sold them on the changes should have both his legs broke by a couple of mafia gumbas.

I kinda feel bad for SIG. They put a lot of work into this rifle (not enough work) to unveil at SHOT, and thinking that this will be at hit with the American public because one, we have been screaming for a SIG 550/551 rifle since 1989.

And two, the Armerican market is flooded with guns that have AR features. From AKs, Cetmes to Remington pump shotguns and rifles people are putting AR stocks on everything.

So SIG think they have a real winner.....but what we want is the same gun that was for sale in 1989.

I'm going to buy the new SIG 556 we need to support gun makers that are trying to bring their black rifle to the US, but I am affraid it will turn into a HK SL8/G36 project to make the rifle whole again.

Lets hope SIG gets a hard time at SHOT and brings back the true SIG 550.
