I am looking at the Remington model 700 (see other post
 ) but didn't want to exclude other bolt action rifles.What other bolt action rifles chambered for the .223 are considered the better target rifles and how do they compare with the Remington 700? |

How about a Savage Model 12 Varminter?

Go with the Remington 700. There is wider choice of accessories for it than any other rifle made.

I have a Tikka T3 and would recomend it highly over any Production American Made Bolt Gun, You wont find a factory American built gun with as smooth an action or as sweet a trigger and it is adjustable.

I Don't think the Steyr Scout comes in .223. The good Col. Cooper would not be happy with that choice of round.

a big +1 for the CZ 527 varmint. comes in a kevlar HS stock, has an incredible set-trigger system and will make teeny tiny cloverleaf groups all day long.

it comes in various caliber: .223 Rem, .243 Win, 7 mm-08 Rem, .308 Win, .376 Steyr. |

Set trigger, nice wood, hammer forged barrel, excellent quality gun. Can't go wrong, I own a couple CZ rifles and think they are the best value in rifles right now. Brian |

I have a slightly customized Savage 10FP in .223. I have been able to do the bolt handle and the trigger myself. Stock replacement is next.

FWIW, I recall reading a review somewhere on 'em, and surprisingly they weren't that good. I think you're better off with an LTR or something |

Try out the new accu - trigger from savage. I like it, crisp trigger makes up for my bad eye sight and at $350 to $400 it leaves you plenty of cash for optics.

i have a 3 month old Tikka T3 Tactical in .223 and like it a lot...it has many features out of the box that a custom smith would add to a Rem 700...when the weather warms up i'll be testing accuracy of heavy commerical ammunition (68-77gr)...with lighter weight commerical ammunition (55-62gr) accuracy at 100 yds is 1" with almost every load

Wow. Big mistake by Winnie. First they drop the 70 HBV (the predecessor to the Stealth....that was an AWESOME rifle), and now the Stealth in .223?

Take note of the twist rate of the barrels. They're not all the same. The Remington Police models are 1/9 and their non-police models are 1/12. The Winchester Coyote is 1/10.

The Win Stealth I are 1 in 9 and mine stabilizes the S77 SMK just perfectly. It actually preferes it to the S69MK... |
