I took my 1903 springfield to the range for the first time today. Unfortunately the floorplate keeps falling out dropping 30.06 rounds everywhere. I tried loading two or three rounds at a time but it would still fall out unless I had my hand on the bottom of the magazine. I looked at the latch that holds the floorplate, and it doesn't really hold on to much, but it didn't look broken or worn out. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there an easy way to fix this?

This was apperently a common problem. I've seen a lot of  '03's with the floorplate pinned in place.

If you want to, you can replace the whole trigger gaurd/floorplate with a stamped M1903A3 assembly. It doesn't have a removable floorplate.

I had the same thing happen with my M1903A1 when I first got it.  I replaced the floorplate and haven't had problem since.

I took the floor plate out and the latch doesn't look damaged but it doesn't seem to grab well either. I don't see any grease or dirt build up. I'll disassemble it later to check inside the latch mechanism. I noticed that there is a little pin hole on the floor plate and part of the trigger guard. Am I missing a piece to my rifle?? I'll check with Numrich Gun parts to order some spare parts.

The Greek return M1903s, had the magazine floorplate pinned shut. The floorplate on mine was pinned, and had a letter B stamped on it.
It is my understanding that the B was used to identify a pinned floorplate.

Mine was pinned, and "B" marked as well I removed the pin the Greeks put in cleaned it all out, and reassembled it, I haven't had any problems with it.
