Well, Watcha think?
Rem 700 SPS(.308)
stock barrel, cut to 18"
NECG banded front sight(.276 partridge insert)
Holland brake(9/16" x28)
XS rear base w/ghost ring
Leupold qrw high's
Leupold 1.5-5 PR
Shoots like a .223 if that. It's my version of a Scout, I may do one with a Badger detachable mag system. I may down the road do one with a forward mount a clip slot it to take M14 clips.

nice. why not go with a forward mounted scope? how did you cut and crown the barrel?

I didn't do the forward "scout" mount because the only one commercially available was the B square one. wasn't to sure about it. So, I'll have one custom made for another project. I'm not so convinced that they are all that much faster anyhow.

I had a Gunsmith do the work, he has a lathe, so, it's a snap for him to do.

I really think commercial manufactures are missing the boat on alot of things that could be more practicle.

Nice... I prefer the rear mount scope to the forward mount. With a foward mount I get glare on the glass if the sun is behind me.

I know the brake may look like to much, but it works! It has a solid bottom, so no dust print-if I end up proned out.

It's your baby, so you can call it whatever you want. Still, without a Scout scope/mount, can't see how it's a Scout.

Looks nice.

One of the reasons that people use Milsurp Mausers for Scout rifles is that with the Scout scope mounted forward, they can quickly reload using a stripper clip in the guide milled into the receiver. Can't do that with a scope mounted the way you have it. Also, since the iron backup sights don't interfere with the scope tube, it can be mounted much lower than on your rifle.

Look into a 3-point Ching sling using Pachmayr flush mounts.

Looks like a nice, handy brush gun. Try it that way for a while, then try it with the scope mounted forward, Scout style. I'll bet that you never return it to its original configuration, like it is now.

I know what a scout is by "coopers" definition--I'm not a zombie and worship that.

Like I said, "my version" I knew if it wasn't a purest, it would be scorned.

Looked good till I got to the brake. I don't care for muzzle brakes at all. Looks good though. I wonder if that is the same threads as a.308 A2 FH?

I think a 5/8" is used on the domestic made ones. I did the brake for the recoil, I know "it's only a .308" It's also less than 7 pounds and I wanted it to be enjoyable to shoot.

Raf, no worries, I do intend to have a forward mount made later and put together one as described. I do agree with the merits of a clip loaded rifle. I think that was tested with the Enfields long ago. I didn't care for the Bsquare mount, doesn't look sturdy enough. I would rather have one made.

Look into a Burris scout rail and scope. I'd trust them way more than that B-square crap. Burris has info on their website about it. Anyways, love the rifle so far.

I have a M700 CDL in 30-06 sitting in the Custom Shop at Remington as we speak, does anyone have a picture of the B-Square scout mount? I'd like to see how it attaches, or at least have someone bring me up to date on how it attaches. If it uses the forawd scope holes of the reciever or the rear sight mounting holes on the barrel itself.
What I am doing with my CDL is having the barrel cut down to 17", applying a 2" Remington muzzle break , pillar bedding the stock and trigger job at 3 1/2 to 4 lbs.

The beauty is... I get it all done at half price as an employee....my little Christmas Present to ME!

PS MArk, I may have built you gun originally! LOL!

The Bsquare does use the front scope holes and the holes from the factory rear iron sights, if it had them to begin with. My experience with them is the mount used on the Savage Scout, ymmv as to the confidence with the product.
I doubt we're the first with the idea!

I am preparing to do one myself using a 700 ADL. It will feature.....

Cut and reshaped Ramline stock
B square scout mount
Relocated front sight
Williams rear sight
18 inch barrel
Red dot sight
and
Stock, scope and action finished in Coyote brown and khaki.

I have all my parts together, I am just waiting for the barrelled action.

My experience with the Williams sights was with the Savage Scout, it always shot loose, I wasn't thrilled with it. Me personally, would go with the XS sight. They do sell one that is just the rear ghost ring.

I've got two scount setups (optics forward of the receiver), one is a Marlin lever action and one is a pump 22 mag. I'm a huge fan of the scout optics and the advantages it provides, but not of the "hard nosed" definition.
Mark, I've got to give my .02 worth....your rifle needs to have EER optics mounted forward of the receiver to be a scout. As it now sits, its just a nice rifle!
