What's the general consesus on the most destructive .223 factory load. I just picked up a nifty new savage 12fv and want something to give good fireworks on groundhogs and crows!

I vote for the one I would ever get hit with.

Anything with a 40- to 55-grain nosler ballistic tip or hornady v-max should work well for crows and groundhogs, etc.

40 gr. is what I use on prairie dogs.  50 gr. is a tad better in wind, but doesnt give the best explosive results as the 40 gr. do, esp to pups.

The Winchester white-box from Wally World, the 45 gr, has impressed the hell out of me.  For cheap devastation that is what I would reccomend.

45gr. Winchester stuff is a good, cheap performer. I shoot mostly BH. blue box 50 gr. ballistic tip, some 52gr. blue box hollowpoint. Quality on these is more consistant.

My buddy has had great success out west with the Black Hills remanufactured stuff (blue box). It's VERY accurate. He uses the 45gr, IIRC. P-dogs vaporize when they get hit with it. I would think crows would be no different.

That ^ ^ ^ guys bullets are weak...

thats a 40gr nosler ballsitic tip at 250 yards at .22-250rem velocities, something like 4100+fps at the muzzle

Its fun watching thru the scope watching a dog do the 3 ft high flying guts spin.....

I have some more devistating pictures somewhere if i can find some time to look for em.
