I need a .22 pistol

I don't want a Ruger, and as much as a like Buckmarks my pops has one I can shoot whenever. I'm between 3 right now but am taking recommendations. I'm thinking about getting either a Walther P22, Sig Mosquito, or a Beretta 87 Target. Input?

I will throw somthing else into the mix . Have you considered a revolver like the S&W 617 ? It is a little slower to reload and more expensive but very shootable and has the huge benifit of being able to handel shorts,cb caps,shotshells or whatever.For tighter budgets the single action Rugers are slower yet to reload but a great value.
S&W makes a decent target type gun, I believe it is called the trailside,great to shoot but you can hardly carry it along with you on a walk in the woods.It is a great range gun as is the S&W 41 which is the top of the line target model. The 41 is a wonderfull gun with a great target trigger but it costs like sin .
S&W in the past made a great line of semi auto .22's,I want to say the model was a 622 but I may be recalling that wrong . The recoil spring rode above the barrel and they were available in three different barrel lengths and a mix of alloy/steel combinations and blue/stainless combinations. The little 3"+/- was a great pocket gun and the mid and longer barrel guns were just great shooters. Keep your eyes peeled in the used gun section.

That'd probably be a little pricey, not that I wouldn't want to spend too much on my first .22. The 87Target is 550 around here. I took a look at Kimber's new .22 1911 and I wasn't impressed by it at all, it felt like a toy.

Here's a neat looking CZ... If i was getting a .22 I probably would get a full size like this or the Sig. The P22 just feels way to small for anything.

I got a MK III when they finally went to an American style mag release. I was wondering if that damn Euro mag release was part of it. I really like the MK III.

I got SHEISLEGEND a Browning Buckmark and it's awesome. Shoots like a laser. Eats anything no problem.

i don't know anything about the Berreta, the Sig is unproven, and the Walther can be picky with ammo.

My vote would be either Ruger MKII or a Ruger Single Six revolver

.

If you are completely opposed to those 2 I would then cast my vote for the Sig.

I don't know what you want the .22 for, but have you considered the (FS22) Firestorm .22? It's made by the same company that makes the Bersa Thunder .380 and is just as good of a product. From what I hear, it's also more accurate than the P22.

In fact, I'm considering the FS22 myself... I just wish I could find a S&W 317 for a decent price.

You're wanting a (semi-)target pistol, right?

I looked at the Trailside a little more today but decided not to go with it because of cracking and spring problems they have after a few thousand rounds. I also looked at some Rugers but still couldn't bring myself to like them. I did put in an order for an 87 Target though. Should be getting here within a couple weeks, $570 though. I guess I just have to wait now.

I have a Taurus PT-22 that I plink with at the range. It's pretty accurate up to 10 yards. Can be picky about ammo though. Picked it up like new for like $150.00 at the local fun store. Sometimes it serves as my "deep" cover gun if I'm in a rush and going out on a quick errand.

I did check one out and they were pretty nice. The safety dug into my hand just holding it though, it'd get annoying after shooting for a while. I did end up going with a Berreta though.

Had one of the taurus tip up barrel .22,nice little gun for the money,however even though you said your dad has one,got to vote for a browning buckmark.A while back the wife wanted a .22 pistol,she held the ruger but when she picked up the buckmark she was sold.We have put probable 4k rounds through it with no problems,shoots more accurate than I can.

+1 for the buckmark. One of the most solid .22's I've ever held. and EXTREMELY accurate. That, or a High Standard. Either the Victor or Supermatic Citation.

Haven't tried the Sig Mosquito but it would be near the top of my list based on my other experiences with Sigs. I have a Walther P22. Some people complain about them but mine is awesome. It's 100% reliable & pretty accurate for a 3.5" barrel. Awesome feel to it too. You can pick one up at a good price. Good platform if you want to put a can on it down the road.

I don't know anything about the sig or the beretta, but the P22 is straight junk. The buckmark, high standard, smith and wesson, and ruger are all excellent guns. I prefer the ruger myself.

Ok, the results are in. I couldn't decide if I wanted a target/accurate .22 pistol, or more of a pocket pistol/plinker. So I'm getting two Berettas, the 87 Target and the 21 Bobcat.

Good choice I have one of each darn good guns . My 87 is not the target model . mine is an 87 BB w/o the finger rest trigger gaurd or hammer drop safety . The 21's are great little guns too . I liked the 87 so much I bought it's big brother in .380
