Not a full auto...but that would be fun.

I was looking at a semi auto .308 1919 last week. I am sure it is a fun gun to shoot, but it would have no practical use other than collecting and the range.
However, if I could use for deer hunting.....that would be a practical use.

So what you guys think, would you hunt deer with a 1919?

Don't they weigh like 20 Lbs ? You would need a come along to get it up into a tree stand! How about you build a pillbox overlooking a field and keep it there ?

+1. A real bitch to pack in/out, especially if you're dragging a deer. The 1919 is considered a "crew served" gun for a reason.

The only spot where I could use a 1919 is in a ground blind over looking a hay field with woods on both sides. The shots could be made with open sights because it would only be a distance of 50 to 80 yards.
Right now I sit in the blind with a HK91, with claw mount and scope and 10 to 14 rounds in a mag makes for a heavy deer rifle.

I would only use a 1919 on a mount in a stand, otherwise I would have a heart attack humping it around all day.

If I had one, I'd probably go deer hunting with it once, just so I could say I had.

I wouldn't buy one for no other reason than to go hunting with though.

Well in AZ unless you could design a 5 round belt I believe it would be illegal. 30-06 is a reasonable round for deer though.

Reading your post I think you are looking for justification to purchase the 1919. Don't you know where you are posting! This is AR15.com! Does it go boom?

BUY IT!

Besides, if it sucks for hunting, you can always claim (like everyone else around here does) that it's for when the ZOMBIES COME!

try about TWICE that weight if you plan on acutally carrying ammo and having at least a bipod and buttstock on it!

Get the A6 that had the stock, bipod and pistol grip. These were primarily used in airborne and small elite units.

Or go with a BAR.

Wellll, I've been on a few deer drives where my position was over-run by 20-30 deer. Hell yeah! A 1919 on a swivel would have kicked bambi's collective ass

You can buy a scope mount that screws directly to the left side plate near the back plate.
Mount a scope on it and dial it in, and you could have a long distance deer rifle.

This could be a new hunting trend. You could even start your own organization:
The Belt-Fed Bambi Club.

All kidding aside, if you have never shot a semi 1919, you don't know what you're missing.
They are a blast. I love mine, and it is probably the only belt-fed weapon I'll ever be able
to afford. With some spade grips and a little practice, you can get your thums going pretty fast and get close to a full-auto rate of fire.
