You could always recommend "OTHER", but I think I have the major players covered.

I voted for the XM193, but I actually use the Winchester Q3131A 55gr. FMJ.

I voted that way 'cause it's the closest to what I'm using right now.

I'll eventually be using some 60gr. HP's, but I need to get my reloading set-up together first.

And I actually keep 13 mags loaded...12 in my Tactical Tailor 1A "Rifleman" vest and 1 in the weapon.

If you felt like spending the money, the 75gr. TAP or 77gr. BH would probably be the way to go.

barrel length and twist?

overall i'd say the 193. but the lenght and twist does matter for maximum effect.

I can vouch for the 60 gr. HPs.  I've been making these for a little while, and they are devastating.  Just yesterday, I shot a water jug at 50 yards with one and it looked like it had been hit with my 30-06.  Litterally tore the back of the jug clean off and split the whole bottle down the side, cap blew off (into 2 pieces) and the water was who knows where.  It's fun to watch the thing fly 20 feet from the spot it was hit.  Most folks would say not to rely on handloads, but I can say that I WOULD trust any round I made with my life, I'm that confident in their construction and reliability.  MJD

Variable.  I have -- currently -- 10.5" 14.5" and 16.1" 1:7 barrels...

Lake City M193

Quoted:
I can think of very few applications wherein 5.56mm would be my "go-to" choice.  YMMV.

So you don't use 5.56 in any theoretical defensive application?  If not that's fine, we can't all be as cool as you.

Alright, I voted M193.  But I really like the Hornady 60 Gr. V-max.  My personal experience with TAP has been disappointing, I bought some of the 75 Gr. stuff for a 1X8 target gun, and my best group at 100 yds. was about 6".  My handloads will consistantly put 3-5 round strings into 3/4" to 1".

I would certainly try the 75gr TAP for accuracy first, but I can't find the damn stuff.

Which is why I am thinking of using the 77gr BH.

How about 55 or 60gr TAP AMAX? the 75 is a HPBT...

According to folks who know A LOT more than me, the 55gr and 60gr TAP do not meet the minimum FBI penetration requirements -- which, IMO are not at all unrealistic so....

75gr TAP is the only option in that line.

My grab and go can contains 480 rounds of XM193 on stripper clips in four 7 pocket bandoleers and one four pocket bandoleer with 4 loaded 30 round Mags. One loaded Mag in the safe with the M4gery.

Another good question is, What .223/5.56 ammo would you choose for an indoor scenario, where family members may be on the other side of walls?

I like the XM193 and have some known quality low lot# cases of it. I have confidence in it and it shoots fine in any AR I may happen to have handy.

75gr TAP.  I have almost 2 cases of the Mk262 Mod1 using the Nosler bullets as well, but that stuff isn't as easy to replace as the 75gr TAP.

You can find 75gr TAP right now?  I can't seem to find anyone in stock......

I was thinking more along the lines of Readers Digest or the morning paper, but then I re-read the title of the thread.  The "go to" and "to go" messed with me.
