On a specimen I examined that was made just after Sept, '94, the barrel was threaded, and would accept an AR F.S.. There were two lock nuts and a lock washer which bore down upon a sleeve around the barrel. The sleeve was, in turn compressed against the front of the fore end of the stock.
I suggest you do the following: Order an M17S field repair kit and a special wrench to fit the lock nuts from Bushmaster, as well as the muzzle device of your choice. See if the FS fits the newer models. If so, then you're done, if not, return the wrench and F.S.. |

My m17s is theraded 1/2-28. Which is standard AR threads. I have an A1 FS on it now. I have one of the original nuts and then the A1. I'm thinking about removing the second nut and just using the FS.

Yeah I bought an A2 FS on saturday and removed the second nut and installed it. I even got it indexed right. I went witht he A2 because I have a surefire on mine and I was worried the A1 might send too much hot gas right into the lense. The A1 will go on my other AR.

Well.......... That would seem, in light of real world experience, as if it were a legal disclaimer by BM against "unorhorized" modifications. That statement has been there for a long while. I have not miked an AR threaded barrel and all M17S barrels, but I believe AR FS units will fit. Don't take this as gospel, check for yourself. |

Well were not PERMENTLY attaching them. Were simply replacing the stock BM nuts with a FS. if you properly torque the FS on it will tension the barrel just like the nuts did.

yeah i think barrel tension from a couple of nuts is not something that would require 'a complete redesign' especially when you can tension with the FS and do the same thing. I think it's their way of not getting in trouble for having what amounts to a threaded barrel all through the dark years of the ban.
