A friend told me that a 44 mag can be fired from a .410 single shot break open... is this true? I know its probably not the safest thing to do but is it possible?

Nope, he's thinking of a .45 Colt.  I would only do this in guns where it is marked okay to do so.

I just talked to a clerk at a gun shop and he told me the same thing about a 410 break open  will shoot a 44 mag . They are both a rimmed cartridge .

I have never tried it .

Do not try firing 44 Mag in a firearm chambered in .410.  44 Mag ammo is loaded to a pressure level that is more than twice what a .410 or 45 Colt is loaded to.

I have a friend that shots .454  out of his Rossi .410/45 LC single shot rifle all the them. That cant be good....chamber pressure wise.

Isn't .410 a caliber? What's the dimension of a .44 Mag? (.429?)

I've dropped a piece of empty .44 brass in my break action .410 once just to see if it would fit...it did. I wouldn't try to fire on out of it though.
