 FN-FAL came to be known as “the right arm of freedom.” As the AK-47 came to symbolize Communist revolutionaries so the FAL came to symbolize the West’s stand for freedom. During its heyday from 1960-1990, the FAL saw heavy and widespread use in combat. From Southeast Asia to Africa the FAL fought in numerous big and little wars during this tumultuous period in history. |

FAL. While the G3 is nice, so is a M14. I would say they all are really close. But for the MONEY $$$$$$$$$ the FAL is the clear choice. WarDawg

I haven't been here long, but this topic seems to surface regularly (including the time I started it once, unaware of all the previous iterations). The answer has always been the same: FAL, as one might guess.

If you want to just buy a .308 rifle I would go with the FAL. I have two DSA's and love them. They are a great value and the mags are cheap. However I am a die hard HK fan, and if I had to keep one rifle it would be my HK 91. The HK91's are selling now for $1695-2000 and the DSA's are much cheaper. The PTR-91's look like a good rifle too. I would stay away from the Cetme's, I have one for shooting but not for hunting or target shooting like the 91 and FAL's.
So both are great rifles, but the bottom line is how much are you willing to spend. |
