Is this much of a job?  I know 1911s and AR15s inside and out, but never fully disassembled a 1100.  I do not want to end up at the 'smith with a box of parts and a dumb look on my face.  
Any advice or links would be appreciated.  Thanks!

You may have to jiggle the bolt back and forwards a bit by tugging on the gas piston, but otherwise it just pulls straight out.

Got it.  I too, have to wonder how it stays in place.  Anyway, the refinished bbl came back and now I have an evil black shotgun in the safe keeping the evil black rifles company.
