I was reading somewhere that Savage has a custom shop that will do work at a very resonable cost...anyone have experience or a contact number/site address?

I'm thinking of haveing some work done on one of their scout rifles.

Why not do the work yourself? It's not rocket science.

Do a web search for Sharp Shooter Supply and give Fred Moreo a call. He will send you a catalog with barrels, stocks, triggers, all the parts needed to customize a Savage and the tools to do it too.
